What are some of your favorite quotes? Not so much lines from movies, but philosophers, speakers, original thinkers etc. Little nuggets of knowledge or advice, those words and sentences that make you think twice.

I'd like to hear em Smile

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you." - Ezekiel 25:17

"The end justifies the means" - Niccolò Machiavelli (Though not directly taking from the prince it is always connected to his works, philosophy) This one has always kinda stucked to me Smile

Knowing others is wisdom.
Knowing the Self is enlightenment.

He who overcomes others is strong.
He who overcomes himself is mighty.

"Fear is the path to the Dark Side; fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." yoda

“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.” yoda

“Yes, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.” yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.” Yoda

That ones by W. Clement Stone ^ the one before is Oscar Wilde.

"Now my friends, I am opposed to the system of society in which we live today, not because I lack the natural equipment to do for myself but because I am not satisfied to make myself comfortable knowing that there are thousands of my fellow men who suffer for the barest necessities of life. We were taught under the old ethic that man's business on this earth was to look out for himself. That was the ethic of the jungle; the ethic of the wild beast. Take care of yourself, no matter what may become of your fellow man. Thousands of years ago the question was asked; ''Am I my brother's keeper?'' That question has never yet been answered in a way that is satisfactory to civilized society. Yes, I am my brother's keeper. I am under a moral obligation to him that is inspired, not by any maudlin sentimentality but by the higher duty I owe myself. What would you think me if I were capable of seating myself at a table and gorging myself with food and saw about me the children of my fellow beings starving to death." ~ Eugene V. Debs

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever.

My old history/german teacher said this one so many times

Gott ist tot! Gott bleibt tot! Und wir haben ihn getötet / God is dead! God remains dead! And we have killed him - Friedrich Nietzsche

Which is more difficult, to awaken one who sleeps or to awaken one who, awake, dreams that he is awake? - Søren Kierkegaard

To stand on one leg and prove God's existence is a very different thing from going on one's knees and thanking Him - Søren Kierkegaard

Taken directly from my facebook:

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." - Steven Weinberg

"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion." Arthur C. Clarke.

"The invisible and the non-existent look very much alike." - Delos B. McKown

"An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness" - Elbert Hubbard

"iacta alea est" (The die is cast) - Julius Caesar

"Quemadmoeum gladis nemeinum occidit, occidentis telum est" (a sword is never a killer, it is a tool in a killer's hand) - Seneca

"Quod scripsi, scripsi." (What I have written, I have written) - Pilate

"I know what you're thinking; and yes, I do have a name for my penis. It's called the octagon - but I also nicknamed my testes; The left is James Westfall and the right is Dr.Kenneth Noisewater. If you ladies play your cards right, you just might get to meet the whole gang" - Bryan Fantana

"He lied to me. Now I can't think of one reason big enough for him to lie about that's small enough not to matter." Patrick Kenzie

What if failure was impossible?

Tomorrow is a mountain, yesterday is a cliff.. Don't slip back, its a long way down in the abyss

You SHUT YOUR MOUTH when you're talking to me

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age. - HP Lovecraft

It is not necessary that you leave the house. Remain at your table and listen. Do not even listen, only wait. Do not even wait, be wholly still and alone. The world will present itself to you for its unmasking, it can do no other, in ecstasy it will writhe at your feet. ~ Franz Kafka

"The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' And I'll look down, and whisper 'no.' They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed in the footsteps of good men like my father, or President Truman. Decent men, who believed in a day's work for a day's pay. Instead they followed the droppings of lechers and communists and didn't realize that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late. Don't tell me they didn't have a choice. Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody hell, all those liberals and intellectuals and smooth-talkers, and all of a sudden nobody can think of anything to say."

"Away down alley, heard woman scream, first bubbling note of city's evening chorus. Approached disturbance. Attempted rape/mugging/both. Cleared throat. The man turned and there was something rewarding in his eyes. Sometimes, the night is generous to me."

"This city is dying of rabies. Is the best I can do to wipe random flecks of foam from its lips?"
