Was having a discussion today about these repacked os iso's laden with preinstalled goodies which seem to be popular at the moment and its its been a while since I had a clean install

I've been thinking about either going down the nlite stage again or just plumping with a performance based xp install along the lines of tinyxp or the aptly named "XP Pro Performance Edition ". Reading into it more though there always seems to be a lot of doubt about their integrity and how easy it would be to bang some malicous files and the sorts in there

Anyone ever used discs like this or even such as black / vistavg . I know nlite is probably the best option but after trying it on a laptop ( mainly due to sata controller but decided to strip some unnessecary stuff ) I didn't seem to get a good return performance wise

Learn how to make your own, then do that from msdn image so you know you can trust it.

I'm guessing you mean using tools such as nlite ?

Tried before but performance didn't seem that greatly boosted. yet looking at releases such as tinyxp . Bare packages seem to be heavily stripped and people say their performance is vastly improved

Just wondering if people have had any experiences

unless you want to be a part of a botnet i wouldnt use any edited version.

A million tweakguides out there to try too.

A reason why many say performance has increased its cause they reinstalled a fresh windows over a bloated 2 year old one in many case on an older system

Maybe this link will be interesting to you: http://lifehacker.com/5033518/debunking-common-windows-performance-tweaking-myths

It has some nice facts about windows performance tweaking.

I do create an nLite version from time to time, but that's also because I integrate my RAID drivers which is very useful.

Cheers for the link

Yeah the myths are known not to help but as said in the comments to which the author finally relents

Switching of unnessecary services does help raise performance. Windows installs for the asus eee kinda proves this

When I made my install of xp for my lappy I did take out some services but not to the extent of reading through bv's site and killing all unnecessary. The installs that do this is what i'm speaking of , Tinyxp barebone install has used blackvipers guide and Got rid of every task that is not essential
