Loki

  • Developer: Cyanide
  • Genre: RPG
  • Release date: Q4 2006

  • Story/Description:
    Quote:

A fantasy voyage through the great mythologies, Loki allows the player to take on the role of one of the 4 heroes of the game, each drawn from a different mythology : a mighty Norse fighter, a fierce Greek warrior, a powerful Egyptian magician or an Aztec shaman who masters the secrets of the spirit world.

Whatever hero the player adopts, he must come to the aid of the gods he worships. He will come to realise that behind the chaos that is threatening his world lies Seth, the Egyptian god of darkness and evil, who has returned from the kingdom of the dead. The hero must therefore undertake an epic journey across the various epochs and myths. He will fight a multitude of monsters of all shapes and sizes, and even overthrow a few gods, on his way to preventing Seth establish his wicked reign.

  • Features:
    Quote:
» An epic adventure across 4 great mythologies – Aztec, Egyptian, Greek and Norse – allowing the player to live through many of the key episodes that mark these cultures (the siege of Troy, Ragnarok, ......) and setting him in the path of the most prominent figures within each episode (Achilles, Thor, Akhenaton.....)

» Choose from 4 different heroes with radically different attributes and powers. Each hero has a vast array of spells and skills to help him through his quest.
More than 100 monsters of all shapes and sizes

» More than 100 monsters of all shapes and sizes

» Dare to take on mythological creatures that struck fear into the hearts of our ancestors (Fenrir the giant wolf, the Minotaur in his labyrinth, .......)

» Innumerable story lines through random generation of decors and items, so that nobody lives the same experience and allowing the game to be played many times without the hero ever having the same set of weapons, armour or spells.

» Weapons, being made of two parts (loosely "handle" + "cutting edge") and from different materials, can be customised at the village forge to change characteristics. Magic runes, found along the way, can multiply the a weapon's power.

» Live through the adventure with friends in cooperative multiplayer mode or fight in single combat against friend or foe in PVP mode on a battleground.

This makes it sound alot like evil islands for those that tried that game (since I havnt seen anyone else really making it posible to make customized magic weapons (Yes you could make a few customizions in some games like color of lightsaber+few extra in KOTOR2 and so on but its not the same as being able to take an random spell, say an fireball customize that a bit (like larger range or that the flames burned longer) and then add that to your bow)).

Yes, get it and get the expansion also, it upgrades the game to 1.30 version (not to mention all the changes the expansion brings). I've played the 1.20 version and it was great, so 1.30 should also be just fine.

Loki is out now in Germany! Hopefully there'll be a release soon.
It's very useful to speak both german and english btw Smile

Seems to get pretty good previews, efficient interface, good graphics (and you can move the camera around, unlike titan quest), a supposedly very nice item fusion whatever system where you can any weapon apart and combine those parts with other parts or weapons, something like that.

The areas are also randomly generated like in Diablo, except for the boss areas and cities of course, which is great.

They say playing through it once will take around 80 hours, and considering the difficulty system is like in Diablo, where you can restart the game with the same character to level him up further and continue from one difficulty to the next, it sure sounds like this game will keep Diablo fans pretty busy for a while Smile

There is multiplayer coop as well as a PVP and a challenge mode (which is kinda like coop)

Online multiplayer is similar to diablo closed bnet in that the characters are saved online to prevent cheating, so while you can play lan (hamachi?) with your single player characters, you can't take them into the online portal.

There is currently no diablo-style hardcore mode, but it appears that it might be added with a patch or addon, who knows.

This game might just well become the best diablo-clone yet, it's looking good!

If what you say is true... I might even buy it. Oh man, I waited for ages that games get randomly generated levels again as in D2. Is online multiplayer free? The one with the characters saved online?

Of course I'll download it first, just to see if it plays as smooth as d2 does. Somehow all the 3d action rpgs seemed somehow slow to me.

yeah the multiplayer is free.
And the challenge mode I mentioned seems pretty funny too. You get special objectives, coop up to 6 players, then you have to complete those objectives. For example kill X creatures in Y time, or kill some boss without using potions, things like that, sounds pretty interesting!

They also used high quality voices for this in german, german voices of hollywood stars apparently. Gotta wait and see if they will put as much money into the english version for the voiceover.

The german version comes with a 118 page manual.. pretty nice, definitely not standard nowadays to have a good manual.

Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.
