Optimization is one thing but hardware limitation is another. You won't get the same performence on console vs a high end PC.
And yeah i know i'm Captain Obvious

Thanks, nvidia, for the heads up.
Now, if you could convince Sony to port Demon's/Dark Souls to the evidently superior PC platform, that would be terrific.

PC is held back firstly by software limitations. Microsoft is the only standard setter with directx and there is no profit for them to keep improving it for end users and developers. For them it would be even more important to keep the power of pcs in check so their consoles would sell better.
Now add to this fact that you need to spend a fortune to develop graphically intensive game this day and you soon realize that going for consoles first and then porting it is practically the only remaining option. And I don't think that will change anytime soon. What was the last hardware demanding game specifically made for pcs? Witcher2? And before that Crysis 1?

AFAIK DX9's overhead for PCs is sick. But didn't they fix it in DX10?
But first somebody has to develop game for DX10... And I mean really DX10, not just some 5 graphic effects.

The only issue is that it would take a controller. I can't see myself playing a game like this with a keyboard and mouse because it would probably mean even more deaths. |
Witcher 2 plays a lot like DS and I prefer to use K&M for it. Camera control is simply faster with the mouse than an analog stick. Ofc I use a gamepad when I want to kick it back and play from the couch, that's really the main advantage it has.
