Is it worth getting the x64 rls? I have a quad core but only a 2gb ram.

As long as you can find the 64bit drivers for your hardware BEFOREHAND, then definitely! 64bit is a massive performance improvement over 32bit. Just make SURE you have 64bit compatible drivers.

I disagree, x64 is only worth it if you have 4gb of ram.

The performance boost can be seen regardless of the amount of RAM.

"Yes x86"
No point in 64 bit unless doing video encoding/transcoding or 4GB ram.

Try and get another 2Gb of ram and go with Vista x64

2 gig of ram is only 35 euro this days and u don't need any ultra high end stuff, just regular 800mhz cl4 will do
dunno about performance difference but i got x64 version coz my cpu is 64bit
so might aswell use it, plus all drivers are pretty stable right now

My bad, only read the poll's title "Should i get Vista instedd of XP?" and jumped into my Vista Fanboyism mode. If you've only got 2GB RAM, upgrade to at least 4GB, install x64 and forget about XP.

No point in getting extra RAM now if you plan on upgrading by the end of the year. DDR2 is old already, and Core i7 will be using DDR3, so while 2GB might cost only 35 euros, you would be throwing 35 euros to the garbage.

Haha
Well, I think CPU-Z would be the fastest way to find memory brand/speed.

I think that 400MHz = 800MHz DDR2. That's all you need to know lol.

If you're staying with 2GB of ram, stay with x86 and preferably XP then. If you're going for 4GB, consider the 64bit version of Vista, it will increase performance and will fully utilise your memory.
As for the compatibiliy issues with Daemon tools, i'm using 64bit XP and the IDE thing doesn't work. Only works on 32 bit XP. Don't know about Vista though but it could be the same.

XP x64 is the way to go for me. better performance in games than Vista x64 and all around the PC runs smoother (yes i have tried multiple Vista x64 SP1 releases and yes i have 4 gigs of ram).
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - ASUS P5Q-PRO - Mushkin XP2-6400 4GB - Gainward HD4850 Golden Sample - WD 3200AAKS (managed to fry this one, ffs) + WD 6400AAKS - Thermaltake 550W PSU - Thermaltake Soprano VX case
