XP really is the best choice for you. At least it is if you intend to game on it .. if not, then Ubuntu or Slackware would be great choices for a Linux install.

TinyXP Rev09 - eXPerience
or you can go extreme with MicroXP v0.82 - eXPerience

Ohhh, sorry! I though you asked what OS
Personally I wouldn't touch XP-SP3 (heh, I don't touch XP period anymore, I'm a Vista boy) and would rather stick with SP2. Ignore all the bullshit claims about XP-SP3 being "10 gazillion percent faster than SP2 and Vista-SP1" -- that is unfounded and unproven. I've seen a MARKED slowdown on system with SP3 over SP2.
Eth0 usually make pretty good "pre-activated" WinXP setups, so stick with those unless you've got a legit key. As for drivers, it all depends on exactly what hardware you have. Best do a bit of research first, go visit the homepages of your hardware manufacturers (or use DriverGuide) to get XP-compatible drivers for your older hardware.
@Karmeck
I'm sorry, but I disagree STRONGLY. *NEVER* download a "Tiny" version of an OS. Slipstreamed editions should only contain files, not remove them. You don't know what that person has removed from Windows and how it will affect you in return.
Please don't bother trying to contradict me as any system builder on here will tell you the same. If you're going to nLite an install, do it yourself.

Argue all you want, you'll be the only person who does. Downloading a hacked copy of an OS where some idiot has removed stuff HE thinks YOU won't need, is a recipe for disaster.

OEM is "Original Equipment Manufacturer" -- it basically means it's the same install that you'd get on a pre-built machine from companies like Dell or Packard Bell.
As for updating to the "April Edition", all that means is that the April one has all the Windows Updates up until April. Other than that, there's no difference. You can grab any release and update manually.
