Decided to fix my Nvidia driver problem once and for all. Thread about it here LINK
I did it the "hard way" described here
LINK
All that stuff worked and I thought "WOW I finally did it"
Installed the latest NV driver and rebooted. Now the fun begins...just as windows loads up I get a 1s flash of BSOD...I thought ok...boot again then...SAME THING! CRAP!!!.
But hang on, I got a back up image from Acronis, lets boot up that recovery disc and load up the C: drive as it was before I did the NV driver fix.
Said and done. The prog starts up and tells me it will take about 30 min to restore. I go and watch some TV, come back to the PC after maybe 40 min... "IMAGE IS CORUPT"...WTF!!!!!
So here I am (the day after) and have a new clean install of VISTA. The NV driver does what its supposed to do, no more crashes and crap. But as i could not back up my docs and favs etc. I will have to sit here and "try" to remember what sites and what have you I had .
I might be lucky in all this misery as I remember copying my favs to my work PC some month ago. I will check on Monday.

After that horrible incompatibility problem, you still installed vista !!
Why don't you dual-boot for gaming, chances are the problem won't show on XP.

This is the only "real" prob i have had with Vista. I am getting my new 4870x2 anyway...probably next week. Personally I am happy with VISTA. I guess I was bored and got my fingers smacked, that's all .

Tried to enter safe mode, but same thing BSOD. And as I could not enter anything, I could not get at the files.
As for deleting this stuff (please read the 2nd link in my 1st post) it can really only be done that way, as you run in to "permission" problems trying to delete the "nvlddmkm.sys".

That reminds me of another reason for dual-booting : you can use XP to access most of the files on the vista partition without restrictions.
EDIT: Nvidia really dropped the ball with this, there should be a solution after all this time. Tsk tsk ...

Yup I agree 100%. I think also Microsoft have to look in to this as it is a combined prob. Anyho, all is working as it should at the mo and I am awaiting that HD 4870x2 next week some time. Now that does not mean that the problems are over ...but let's hope so.

damn , this happend to me at least a couple of times
i usually make a back-up of my docs , and favorites and export what i can and need from opera
once a month or a couple of months
well , if it still would happen , i have an old bootable windows 98 cd and can use it to move or copy my shit on another drive via dos .. old stuff is still the most reliable

You are not alone man.
Check this out Googel Search on "nvlddmkm.sys has stopped responding"There is A LOT of links about this crap!.
EDIT: Oh...maybe you mean backing up your C: drive...in that case I can only say it happened to me only this time.
Normally any backup I have done works. This was a "freak" event...maybe it was meant to happen this way .
