Whaaa? How is this so much like LittleBigPlanet, exactly? |
Well, I am not too sure about 'so much' part - I don't have PS3, and saw only youtube videos. LBP was the game that nearly made me to buy PS3, but the lack of LCD tv stopped me back then
Overall, game mechanics seems to be similar - side-scroller, physics puzzles, characters must help each other to progress further etc.

The only difference I see between that and LBP, is that - so far at least - it looks like you don't make your own levels. Everything else? all but identical.

reminded me more of lost vikings aswell
only thing in common with LBP is that it's a physics based puzzler sidescroller - which isn't much, really

Well, it has that in common with Super Mario Bros.
I guess...

Can't you complete the LBP story as a single character, and don't they all have the same abilities?

Really? Because the differences I'm seeing, are, well, theme, music, graphics, combat, different character abilities, and of course, the lack of the in-game editor (note, however, that Frozenbyte have said that they'll try to release the editing tools for Trine, if possible).
The only similarity I see are that there are some puzzled based on very simple physics interaction (basically, falling crates).

Ok, at the risk of suffering yet another tongue-lashing from you on your immortal quest to prove everyone wrong because you just cannot accept someone else having an opinion that differs from your own, let's tackle your points;
Theme: Umm, cutesy platformer with the objective of helping each other get to the end of the level. Sounds similar to me.
Music: Oh right, of course! I forgot games must have identical scores in order to be considered similar. My bad.
Graphics: See above BUT, you're still wrong. The graphics are extremely similar. They may be more "jazzed" up compared to LBP, but they're very much alike in general nature. 2.5D scrolling platform style.
Combat: Meh, you're probably right about that one.
Differing character abilities: I'd call that an extension of LBP, "icing on the cake" so to speak.
Level editor: So there IS one? Why am I not surprised?
There are subtle differences between the two games, I wasn't disputing that, but to say "they're nothing alike11111111111" is just preposterous.
Basically, I'd call Trine "Little Big Planet - Combat Edition" They're so similar they could be the same game, just with less emphasis on physics manipulation and more on combat. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just expressing my observations (and IMO, Trine looks great! Definitely one I'll be checking out once a demo becomes available)
=Edit=
I tell you what, let's make a deal yeah? Whenever I say something you disagree with, just keep it to yourself -- and whenever you say something that *I* disagree with .. I'll do likewise. Ok?
It makes life a helluva lot easier for us to coexist here, because to be perfectly honest; I'm kinda getting tired of arguing with you all the time :-\

Why does every response to me have this bullshit in it? :/
It's almost like a cop-out, as though I'm too ridiculous to converse with. I, personally, think it's an easy way out for people whom I have intellectually bested.
Quote: | Theme: Umm, cutesy platformer with the objective of helping each other get to the end of the level. Sounds similar to me. |
Trine looks "cutesy"? If it is any sort of "cutesy," then it's definitely a very different sort of cutesy from LBP. Also, the objective in all platformers is to get to the end of the level. If it has this in common with LBP, then it has it in common with Bionic Commando Rearmed, as well.
Quote: | Music: Oh right, of course! I forgot games must have identical scores in order to be considered similar. My bad. |
Sorry. I should have wrapped music into "theme," I suppose.
Quote: | Graphics: See above BUT, you're still wrong. The graphics are extremely similar. |
Replace "extremely" with "somewhat," and I'd agree. I mean, they're both pretty bloomy, I suppose. Aside from that, I just don't see the same fantasy elements in LBP's graphics.
Quote: | 2.5D scrolling platform style. |
Having 3D graphics and 2D gameplay is only so much of a similarity, as well.
Quote: | Differing character abilities: I'd call that an extension of LBP, "icing on the cake" so to speak. |
I'd call that an "entirely different gameplay design element," myself.
Quote: | Level editor: So there IS one? Why am I not surprised? |
But it's not integrated into the game, which is the only reason that LBP's level editor is noteworthy.
Quote: | There are subtle differences between the two games, I wasn't disputing that, but to say "they're nothing alike11111111111" is just preposterous. |
I never said they're nothing alike. I said that the differences between them are significant.
Quote: | Basically, I'd call Trine "Little Big Planet - Combat Edition" |
I'd call that ridiculous, because Trine is it's own game.
I mean, the second someone sees goofy floaty physics, they decide that two hugely different games are identical. I just don't get it.
Quote: | They're so similar they could be the same game, just with less emphasis on physics manipulation and more on combat. |
Oh, well then. Mario Galaxy could be Ratchet & Clank, if only it had more guns.

I'd be very surprised if it was more than $20. It's also on PSN, and I'm not aware of any games on there being over $20, so, yeah. That's what I'd expect.
