When five year-old Oliver Hughes disappears while on holiday in France, it sets off a nearly decade-long search for his whereabouts. "The Missing", a STARZ Limited Series, is a dramatic thriller that takes you inside the mind of a father, Tony (played by James Nesbitt), desperate to locate his lost son. With help from a legendary detective (played by Tcheky Karyo), Tony embarks on an obsessive quest to find his son and those responsible for his disappearance. A gripping puzzle with twists and turns at every stage, Tony's exhaustive search fractures his relationship with his wife, Emily (played by Frances O'Connor), and threatens to destroy his life. Told through a complex narrative, "The Missing" unfolds over two time frames simultaneously.
I've finally watched the first episode and it was really good but what's so "brilliant" & "fucking awesome" about it though compared to,say, Forbrydelsen\Bron?

Da best Mr Hyde / Dr Jekyll
well, I only really compare it to the american shows which have all been like awful so far, except The Knick.
Hmm pretty good season wrapup...there's just one thing
Spoiler:
So is he dead or is he not dead? Did Tony make the picture in the snow? Or is he seeing things he wants to see?
I'm not sure what the significance of it is but Tony is seen drawing a picture that looks similar to his son's but it's not it - near the end of the episode (55 min or so)
I'm guessing the point of the ending is that Tony can't accept the fact his child is dead and is looking for him still - seeing things that aren't there.
I think they deliberately left the ending ambiguous.
Spoiler:
Either Tony lost his mind and it was he who painted this picture, and the boy we saw in the end wasn't his son, or Tony somehow managed to follow the trace of Olly which got him to Russia but in the process of finding him he did too many mistakes & acted irrationally (the police officers mentioned him harassing other families\boys) so although he did find his son it didn't matter anymore coz he lost all credibility(authorities would never start a proper investigation) & his son didn't recognize him.
"The boss of TV drama The Missing has admitted the ending was a mistake and should have been more clear.
Viewers and critics were angry that the BBC1 eight-parter – with James Nesbitt as the father of a missing son – left them not knowing
Spoiler:
if the boy was dead or alive.
Wtf!? The ending was perfect. It was spot on. I really hope they are not gonna dumb down the second season so that it could make some morons happy. I guess it's the same cocksuckers that demand to make games more straightforward, simple and short, a new fucking generation that needs everything to be spoon-fed to them.
