it's like the main guy, the dad, simply can't catch a break - everything he does just makes life worse -- if he spends time with the family, his book ends up being shit and he's likely to lose his job. If he compromises and spends time with his son and concentrates on his book, his son is happy but his wife is pissed off and his book still sucks. If he spends time with his wife, his son is unhappy and his book sucks, any compromises with the wife just end up with her bitterly lamenting their broken marriage. Concentrate on the book? His son ends up a reclusive wreck and his wife ends up hating him.. oh he slowly descends into alcoholism.

There's absolutely no happy or satisfying middleground whether you concentrate on a single task, or "compromise" with one of the family members. The wife constantly whines about how he doesn't spend time with her, the son constantly cries about being alone and having nobody to play with, the dad either becomes an alcoholic shitbag or he writes an awful book. It seems to me that the developers just hate males. No matter what the guy does, his wife just complains - he's supposed to be a perfect husband, a flawless father, a fantastic author, peak physical condition too. He agrees to go running two days a week (at the same time as writing a book, spending time with his son and devoting everything else to his wife) and all she does is whine that "it's only two days, I wish it was more" -- oh and he also pays for artclasses for her, but she complains about THAT not being enough either. It's insulting.
