A while ago i read a load of forums over the net where people were doing this. With their blueray writers they were first copying the entire image of the disc onto their PC and then burning it directly to a disc and playing them back on their PS3. I remember the days of PS2 you could do just this, people would copy the image of a DVD single layer and dual layer and then down size them to fir onto a single layer dvd recordable and then played them back fine on their PS2 without needing a modchip or boot disc. Is this possible with the PS3? I don't want to scratch those expensive blue ray originals.

they dont call you the "thebeliever" for nothing How about those expensive Blu-Ray blanks? Or are the blue ray ones cheaper? But yes it can be done, remove the protection and re author the disc. Menus etc might be an issue though.

And no, that`s not possible. edit: well - sry - that modchip part in your post led me to the conclusion you are talkin bout games... why the hell should you need a modchip to playback video files anyway?! try here:- http://club.cdfreaks.com/f142/ theres a number of threads about backing up bluray movies onto bd-r discs. seems you rip them with AnyDVDHD and shrink them with tsmuxxer or ripbot from what ive read. The night is dark and the road is long. Come on dead men, return to your homes.

in bali they sell copys for 5$..but i dont think they work,lol.
