Hi there, im planning on trying VIsta 64 but i only have 2 gigs of memory so im looking for new one. The question is, can you mix different brands of memory and still run it well (but the same timing 4-4-4-12)? Right now i have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134583 but im thinking of adding 4gb (2gb x 2) with the same timing, would it work. Here is a brand im looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104043 seems like what i have now its just 4gigs.
Thanks.

ya, as long as it fits. I dunno how motherboards are now days with compatibility but it should work. if you get slower ram than what you have now I believe the other ones will default to the slower ones as well

I fail to see the mixing part because both those memory sticks are the same speed, brand and even same series (HyperX) and since the only difference is in size I don't think there will be any compatibilty problem. You might however run into a problem with not being able to use memory slots 3 and 4 (or 2 and 4) on the board. There have been quite a few posts here about computers not recognising or worse, not passing the memtest and hence not booting up with all memory slots occupied.

And the problem will not show up if you switch your current memory sticks to the empty slots since the problem lies with boards not being able to use ALL the slots that they have. You could borrow a couple of memory sticks and check if the board recognises/boots with all slots occupied. Or google your board's model no. to see if other people have had similar problems.

Well i ordered this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227267 as hyperx were out of stock. These have the same timings as my current ones (so it'll be mixed). And if it doesnt work as swingman says i'll just use 4 gigs (using only 2 slots) instead of current 2 gigs.
Thanks for the help. Here is my board btw, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131225R ,asus p5k-e . Had no problems so far, except it takes about 15 seconds to start actually booting (posting) after you press the power button. It just sits there for 15 seconds without posting anything.

Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.
