Could somebody please recommend good VLC replacement. Its a great player, and plays most of my video files very well, but it has problems with HD movies. Like i got band of brothers 720p in wmv format and it has artifacts, jerky video playback and strange sounds (works perfectly fine in windows media player). Also sometimes it will not skip to the place i want. Like right now i want to watch mkv file and skip about an hour, but it wont let me, if i do it the timer will go on but no sound or video (but i can skip about 30 mins) very strange. I also do not think its my PC struggling to play those files(8800 gt and e6850)

There is no replacement for VLC, anyone who claims there is, is wrong. More importantly, if the word "codec" more specifically "codec" followed by "pack" is mentioned in this thread..
..... I will ban you..

KMP all the way
built in codecs, nice looking skins, loads of options which no player has
tried latest vlc and it was a bugfest

Hey Mort, how do you change audio device to 5.1 in KMP, i quickly checked audio options and did not see it. Also is it possible to disable double click on the screen to stop the playback, i would rather have it go to full screen if you double click (never liked that feature in any player).

Decoder usage
Internal audio decoder
put everything on 5.1
if u will switch to headphones or enable stereo in windows kmp will downmix it to stereo automatically

select Enhanced Video Renderer for better picture quality
right click on player while running or stopped go to video(advanced) video renderer\enhanced video renderer
only has affect in vista

I recommend ffdshow for HD, but I guess the choice of codecs is different for everyone.
Also, Media Player Classic is outdated. Use Media Player Classic Home Cinema:

MPC HC has some blocking with some files where KMP is 100% working

KMP is great, just make the interface font smaller when you first run it. Don't know why they insist on having 1000 cm fonts by default.

Thanks for suggestion guys, but I think i'll stick with KMP for now. I tried every format i could find on my comp (mkvs, avis, wmvs, movs and so on) and in SD, 720p and 1080p and KMP plays them perfectly. And as Mortibus said its very customizable.
I used VLC for a long time and i dont know why its acting up, maybe i'll try their new version later (heard the latest version is a bugfest).
