Whats the best way to get out of this cunt?

my friend is struggling to pay off her credit card debt because of moving into a new house the rent takes all her money. The debt is going up (although she isnt spending the card, its maxed) and the fees interest along with it. Is there anything she can do to freeze it or consolidate it properly :S? I know jack shit about this sort of thing because Ive never been in debt in my life.

I really want to help her out so, if anyone has any good stories/ideas to share please gogogo.

The trick is to not get into debt you cant afford Wink.. This is why the country is in the state it is in and why the economy is falling down the toilet.

If she needs to pay something off that she cant afford she will need to get a better paid job.

How can you max out your credit card by moving? What was her limit 500?

Anyway I don't think there is anything you can do except maybe take out a loan at the bank at a lower interest and pay off 100% of the credit card. The problem with this as soon as people do this they start charging again and end up in the same problem expect now it is twice as much. (make sence)

Also when paying off credit cards. Lets say she owes 1000. She pays it all off except for 10. She is still paying interest off the 1000. Until the balance reaches 0 she will always be paying on the highest debt amount. Lot of people don't know that.

She needs to work 2 times as much and spend 2 times less.

nono what happenned was.. she was living fine and using her credit cards responsibly (well, responsibilities with credit cards can only go so far in my book Rolling Eyes; example she bought the odd clothes here, took her BF the odd presant there but nothing too expensive and always payed it off) anyway so.. then the house she was renting ; the landlord either died or stopped renting the hosue out (I cant remember, it is a bit fuzy cos it was last year, might have been a family member of the landlord that died which caused him to sell up or something :S) so she had to move back in to her parents place (which was too far out of her way to keep her job, commuting was too far to travel each day) so she had to quit. she took out the max on the card which was around £2k (its not a serious debt but its got built up fees now) and until she found a new job she was practically living on that 2K. Now shes back working again and living in a new place BUT the rent is much much higher than the last and shes struggling with it. I suggested simply staying at her parents place again until she could pay it off but unfortunately her parents dont get on too well with her when shes at home so it's out of the question. The debt has been unpaid for months and months now, the fees are rolling in and the excess is nearing 1K on top of the 2K already owed (as far as I know, she hasnt told me the full amount as im not even sure she knows herself)

man I wish I could explain this shit better, it really is all jargon to me, Ive always lived by the 'no cash dont buy it' rule and saved my money when Ive wanted something plus Im still living at home with a parent so I dont have any debts whatsoever. The reason I want to help her out is because Ive known her a good 6 years, shes been a good friend to me and is a good person, and in all the time I have known her until right this last year shes never had any problems with money or spending what she didnt have, in fact she was a better money manager than me during college Razz and it is a shame to see her under the stress she currently is (she was actually engaged this year but things arent going well with the fince now which doesnt help).

From the outside looking in this small bit of debt is ruining her life :s

Actually you explained it pretty good. She got into difficulties like most young people do and she lived on credit. This is why you need at least 1 months rent plus some in the bank in case something like this happens.

The issue of her fast move tho is a off. Here there are rules that protect tenants.

If she had a lease I would think she would of been protected. I think (never had to do it) that evection to make room for a family member is 3 months notice. Even if he the landlord died the estate of the landlord can't kick her out without 3 months notice (might be even 6 months in some cases like low income)

Here, there are rules that protect tenants. If the tenant is late for 10 days the landlord will serve notice and the tenant can dispute that so a date is set in court. That whole process can takes months to evict someone. Kinda like a squatter. If she was always late paying rent the landlord can issue a 1 month get the hell out notice. (her fault) They can still dispute it in court. She is protected for 3 months if he was to sell also. The new owners have to respect her rental agreement. For example they just can't double the rent or kick her out.

The thing is that most people want their cake and to eat it too. For example they want the protection that a lease offers but they don't want the responsibility. You are taking a chance without a lease.

She should of checked out her rights a bit more.

And if her credit is so bad she should suck it up and move home. You are planning on bailing her out aren't you Question

Something else she can do is call the credit company and explain her situation. They may work out a payment plan with her and reduce her interest. Their job is to make money off her, not have her walk away owing everything.

kaeye phone the people she owes it to and ask them to stop the credit card fully and ask them to make a weekly or monthly payment plan such as 20 or 30 pounds a week or maybe 50 pounds a month? They should agree but if they say no then tell them well thats all I can afford otherwise you will have to send me to court (which will cost them money) and they will finally say yes to the payment plan. The other thing you could try and do is to write or type a letter to the bank and try to get her charges back then phone the dept people and say i'm in the process of getting my charges back etc.

I like bum.

no. She works in the police now. She came straight out of college into the police. Pistol.. I took a train to meet her and she was in a real mess the other day. I have a soft heart for her as she does for me but I cant bail her out of 3K debts, its just not the right thing to do. Plus I can not afford that myself, I checked my bank today and I only have £700+ or so cash in there myself which is running a little thin for comfort. Im getting pay day on friday but even so I still cant afford to bail her out and I know for a fact she wouldnt accept my money even if I offered.

I suggested she take a bank loan out to deal with the credit loans so she can get them off her back, but she cant do that since her bank loan is not payed off fully either. Luckily she doesnt Owe the bank too much so it isnt so bad.

I am currently talking to her about trying to get them consolidated.

She is in a worse situation then you can imagion if she works for police. Owing money that is. She should of been making enough money to live. Maybe you are taking things too far?

Tell her to get in touch with her creditors. As soon as they see that she cant afford to pay it, they will freeze the interest and set up a pay plan. Alternatively tell her to get in touch with the citizens advice bureau which will give her info on what to do, they will suggest what I already said, but they will also give her details of companies that will manage her debt for her, do most of the running.

3k isnt a lot of debt, if she can make that into 1 payment per month, instead of lots of little ones she's on the right path. The sooner she goes to see someone about it the better. There are a hell of a lot of people in worse situations than her.

Is there alot cime in the UK then? cause i'd laugh if a few of my boys and i were say makin a drug deal and a few cops came to stop us waving batons Laughing its like something you'd see in a bad comedy ya know?

Unless the response time of those special units are like under 2 minutes. then i guess it would be effective to bide some time
