Do you find Nvidia's naming scheme confusing? We can't really blame you. Nvidia has released GeForce 8- and GeForce 9-series graphics cards based on the same G92 GPU, and it has made things doubly confusing with an alphabet soup of suffices: GTX, GT, GS, etc. Now, TG Daily reports that Nvidia will release a third G9x-based graphics card series with a new name.

The effective naming change will reportedly apply to all 55nm GeForce 9-series cards, which will Nvidia will re-badge as GT 100-series offerings. TG Daily elaborates, "By the end of 2008, Nvidia will be offering today's 9000 series as G100, GT120, GT130, GT140 and GT150 models." The new names might make a little more sense than the old ones, but as far as we know, Nvidia already offers two 55nm GeForce 9 cards: the GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 9800 GTX+.

As a side note, TG Daily mentions that Nvidia also has newer GTX 200 cards lined up for a launch on October 15. That's all the article says, but if we had to guess, we'd bet the launch has to do with that 55nm GT200 die-shrink we've been hearing about since May.
