Ok this is the "standard" zebra crossing sign in Sweden

It was designed 1955 by a famous graphic designer.

Now they want to mix it up a bit as Sweden is such a liberal and caring country...with this

This is not a JOKE, this is real. Now, I am not sexist or anything, but WHY!!!!!! for crying out loud...WHY! spend tax payers money on something so pointless.

I have a theory and it has to do with the Dildo commando known as the "Feminists" in Sweden, and of course the total surrender of listening to everyone's opinion...well at least make it look like that on the surface.

This is so typical Swedish that I can not really think of a better example then the above as a symbol of the utter and total stupidity of Swedish "we are the most caring ppl in the world" mentality.

Maybe i have lived out of Sweden to long...but when I saw this...well it made me pissed of, really did.

Just a addendum on the actual design of this insanity...why have they given the female figure a skirt!!!...Now that is sexism if I ever saw any. F'n plain stupid...and expensive!

The boobs are to small anyway Wink.

okay, that's really stupid - i mean, which woman with half a brain gets pissed off about a zebra crossing sign? or any street sign for that matter although i can't think of another one with a man depicted on it.
i'm all for equal rights but this is plain ridiculous
it's a freaking street sign it's not as anybody had the opression of the female gender in mind when they painted it.

any info on why they do that? are they forced by some feminist group or do they wanna avoid dealing with the feminists?

As far as I can gather its because of equality (originally proposed by the Green party). The designer of the original sign named "Herr Gårman" rough trans "Mr. Here One Walks"
actually designed a female sign back in the 1979...looks like this

As you can its a bit more feminine, that's maybe why it got canned back then .

Yeah I remember reading about this a few months back, think the blog or w/e it was on mentioned each sign costing about 60 euros. And that's not counting in the work hours, fuel costs etc. required to actually get them changed. You can just imagine the final cost. Razz

And since they're feminists, once the signs would get changed, they'd start bitching how they're sexist in their portrayal since the pedestrian wears a dress.

You mean the Swedish government wanting this, or me being peed off about it?...

I mean think about it, what do you think crap like this cost. This is a government project we are talking here...probably 8-10x the money and time it would be if it was done by a normal corporation. It's sick I tell you...and typical Swedish.

well i don't care, i'm just curious ^^
but i can understand if somebody from sweden gets pissed over that as CaptainCox pointed out it's waste of money for something that (propably) only a small group felt offended by in the beginning

Well actually they are not 100% on this. The design is ready and in practice the new signs could come up after the 1st of Jan 2009. It all depends if the cabinet agrees on it...but I am sure they will

Anyho, if they have come this far (probably years of discussions, meetings and changes to the design= €€€€€€) They will most likely vote yes.

And this sign will not replace the old one, it will be a mix up apparently, witch makes it worse in my opinion. Anyway, I don't live in Swe anymore, but now I wonder if I ever want to come back.

The new sign still looks more like a female to me. I find that sexist and am now filing a class action lawsuit on behalf of the oppressed men in Sweden. But seriously what the hell is the point in all of this? Its not like a driver sees a male crossing sign and only avoids hitting a male while speeding up and plowing into woman who dare crosses. People understand the sign already its not confusing and its not like the there's a man leading a woman with a leash with her all one fours so its not degrading or offensive.

These are the signs we use in America.

You can see the obvious similarities so its not like Sweden is the only one with these signs that are gender specific.

In Croatia it is illegal for more than five women to be in the same place except for in brothel or in grave.

Or was it Kazakhstan?

ok, if that wasn't real it would be totally funny...
they changed the sign because transsexual students complained?
oh sweet god, i wish i could think of something funny to say to that but that's even to crazy for me ^^ (i'll add some stupid yet funny line when i finally can think of one ^^)
on the other hand actually it's not a big deal (imo) as well as the zebra crossing signs - the problem is the money stuff like that costs.
i mean, does it really matter if it's "ladies" and "gents" or toilets and toilets with urinals?

Indeed it is history just look at the condition of your "empire" today Wink

For all those who live in Sweden that read this I want each and every one of you to express a unique complaint each to show that changing the sign is not only unhelpful but impossible to make everyone happy. Complain that it doesn't represent transgendered people, overweight people, wheelchaired handicapped people, people missing limbs, Bald people, old people and so on.

Jenni come now. You know I am a brit supporter and recognize their contributions to
.my country and am proud that england had such a big roll in developing this nation (hell they held the french to one province, that alone deserves the queen on some of our money).

But the biritsh empire of old (which is something to be really proud of) is not like England today....england today is a shell of its once great self. Thats not to say England isnt important or doesnt play a roll in this word, ofr course it does....but if one goes back far enough, each euro country has some sort of claim to fame. You gotta let go of the past accomplishments and start focusing on what the english gov does today. And their track record, for oh atleast the last 8 years, is horrible. there's no shame in admitting yourt counrty is fucked up in some ways. I know Canada is.
But, if you cant admit that then ill haave to say your ignorant jen. And dont take that as an attack. Just a fact, samething you'd say. You know I consider you a good friend Smile

I have to disagree with you Syco. I prefer the modern England which doesn't try to spread its tyranny across the world and has itself embraced much more liberties for its people.

i wasnt saying that. I wasnt saying old england was better than modern england. I was simply saying modern england isnt like old england. the greatness (in terms of its the place to be, economic superiority, military superirority etc) is gone.

I too prefer modern england and such

But i have to ask you this...whats the difference between old england and modern USA? The USA is essentially trying to build an empire. Again, thats not an attack on the ppl of the US (whom i have nothing against). Just the corrupt bastards in charge.
