Several of my friends who are playing Warhammer tell me that it fails when compared to DAoC.

It only fails compared to DAOC 4 years after development... the release of Warhammer is unparalelled for PVP.

i'd still give it to warcraft and well esp with it being an e-sport but it can be pretty unbalanced at times and this switches around every patch sadly.

I recently tried to play UO but couldn't handle the graphics. I don't mind the low resolution 2D graphics, but the game plays like a slideshow. It is like your character is walking on tiles and must pause after each one.

This is a rather strange question. Theres lots of differences between one kind of PvP and the other. Some people like it rough, while others can only take it with plenty of lube.
I would say EVE-Online, but that thing is really only for those who feel pretty f*cking hardcore.
Why?
Let's see:
1) The whole game is built around PvP. With a completely player driven economy, even the carebears of that game are working towards making PVP possible by building the ships and weapons other people use (to kill them:P)
2) The PvP in EVE-O is non consentual. Theres no safe zones in EVE, only zones where PVPing will get you killed. Still, nothing prevents you from killing the victim before the police gets to you.
3) PVP losses are final. You fly a spaceship in eve. Inside the spaceship, there is a command capsule, called pod.. you float in that pod in some ugly goo and control your spaceship through neural blahblah. If you lose your ship, theres no corpse run, instead you will get a pod race. That is.. a race where you try to flee before the enemy blasts your pod into little pieces as well. If he does, then you really die.. OFC you got your clone, but those things arent exactly cheap, and if you forgot to update it properly, then you might very well end up losing precious skill points.
Make no mistake here.. we are talking about serious loss potential..
Since the losses can be so severe, and the time investment so precious, people tend to be a lot more social than in other MMOs. In EVE its not just who you go raid with, or who will roll on the same item you want.. Guilds (corporations) in eve online are about who is going to watch your six. Who will help you if you are in trouble.
In fact, one of the most valuable assets you can have in EVE is a freakin huge list of in game buddies you can call when something goes wrong. EVE is no single player game in a multiplayer universe. Its meant to be played in groups.
Oh yeah.. the EVE online universe is unsharded. So all players are living and playing in the same virtual world instance. OFC the world is not continous. Theres various star systems connected by jump gates, and these systems are actually on separate servers, but from the player's perspective its all one big world.
To illustrate the scales a little: At peak times, there are about 30-35k people online on the server - this does not seem much, but remember that they are all sharing the same world. In fact it can feel pretty crowded. The biggest alliances (thats an organization where multiple corporations join for mutual protection and stuff like that) consist of literally 1000s of players.
If its not obvious from those numbers, then let me tell ya: those people leading these alliances are not your average 16y/o computer geeks. They are more often than not mid 30, mid 40 people who more often than not are in leadership positions in their real life job as well..
This is quite easy to understand tho. Leading a virtual alliance or corporation is not a lot smaller task than leading a real world one. You get much of the same problems and you need to have very similar qualities to be successful in that.
Because of the games rather serious and harsh world that forces you to cooperate, the average player age is well above 20. I think its around 25-26 somewhere.
I could go on and on and on and on i guess. If you havent done that yet, then go ahead and check it out. www.eve-online.com - theres a 2 or3 week free trial, which isnt much considering how skills in eve work, but its more than enough to get a feel for the game.

EvE-O is the best group pvp game out there, no question about it. But dont forget that u train your skills real time. If a skill takes a month to complete in the game it takes a month IRL too. So if u want to fly any of those big@ss ships, read; titans, u might have to train skills for a whole year. And thats if u know the right skill path to start with. And even if u know the path and got the time, its costly. Skills, equipment, ships etc costs a fortune.
Still its one of the best mmos out there

Get Warhammer now because it will receive major upgrades and in a year or two it will be absolutely awesome and you'd regret that you didn't start sooner once it gets some major content patches and addons.

You could call an FPS PvP if you like. it just seems redundant because pretty much every fps with multiplayer in existence has some kind of pvp.
and pvp is not called rvr in warhammer, rvr is simply what they call their system of realms fighting against each other and gaining control of zones, it's not a replacement term for pvp.
and you can PK in ultima online btw, players also drop all their gear and whatever else they had on them when you killed them and you can loot everything.
and what the fuck is controlled pvp supposed to be anyway?

EvE-O gets a vote from me. I had such an adrenaline rush first time I was planning my assault on some assshole. I was shaking and couldn't focus .
Ps. And yes, I do leave house every day.

controlled pvp means : no outside interference, no outside buffs (high level buffs for lowbies) etc.

Thing people have to accept in EVE. Just as in real life, theres tihngs you can aspire to achieve, and theres the things you have a real chance to achieve.
Unless you are a marketing genius, a near perfect con artist or a born leader personality, its unlikely you will amass the resources to be able to afford some of the stuff in that game.. Those are simply meant for the insanely rich or the big groups who can pool their resources.
Titans are a good example. They cost around 80 billion ISK, which (considering the ISK/USD rate of unofficial ISK sales - about 5-8 million ISK / USD - a rather conservative estimate) is around 10000 USD. As you can imagine, these things are not built overnight. Definitely not something the average player will EVER has on its own. They are prime targets for all your enemies and the rest of the bad guys out there and its always news when one of them goes down. Yepp.. they -too- can be destroyed.
By the way: You do not have to be lvl999 to make a difference. Skills might take a long time to learn, but unlike other level based MMOs, theres a real match between players of any level. Your skills matter in what you can use, and can provide certain bonuses, but they only go that far.. most of your abilities are determined by what you are flying, and how well it is equipped. That is.. 2-3 newbs can take down a 4-5 year old veteran where alone they would not stand a chance. It is the golden rule of EVE. Teamwork beats soloplay every day, all day.
Show me an MMO where 3 lvl1/10 of max characters have a chance to beat a max level one.
