Hi,

I have a PAL PS2 (Model Number: SCPH-50003) and I was wondering if I need a modchip to play dvd backup games like Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas?

Is it possible to do this, because modchips are banned in the UK so I wont be able to buy one over here.

Any Suggestions?

Check out your local paper and i'm sure you'll find several Modders.
But there is another way Smile
Just get a fliptop lid and SwapMagic. Costs less but you have to swap discs.

Would I have to buy the flip top shell and swap magic from the states cause I cant seem to find it on any online shops here...

And this way would work with downloaded NTSC backup PS2 games??

Dont worry about where I have to buy it, I have found a site where I can get Swapmagic v3 CDr / Swapmagic v2 DVD-r bundle and a fliptop...

But still want to know if this will work with downloaded dvd-r's NTSC...

goto this site and look for a market near you. i got my ps2 mod chipped there with the messiah 2 chip for £50 and all the games work fine.
I would recommend getting it chipped rather than using the fliptop/disk swap procedure.

I use Fliptop/SM method. The only way to play copies without a modchip. I can play everything with this method Smile
