So i got myself a Dell Studio 15 Laptop a couple months back.
Ii had a problem with the nice "touch sesitive" keys and therefore I contacted the Dell support.
A couple of emails and a whole lot of time later, they tell me I have to send it to a workshop.
I thought "what the heck, that can't take too long." - ten days later (in the beginning they told me it would take 5, then 6 and eventually 10) I received my notebook, happy as a schoolgirl, and then
Booyah! same problem as before.
Not only that, I even have a freaking new problem (keys get stuck without them being physically stuck - but that seems to be a common problem with the Studio 15, 17 and the XPS series).
Damn, this pisses me off so fucking hard it's not funny anymore. They replaced the Mainboard (at least that's what they said they did) and I get my old problem plus a new one? Seriously, wtf?
And when I think about having paid almost 1k for that thing, I get pissed off even more. So if I ever decide to get a new notebook I will never ever buy a screwed up Dell notebook again.
I just hope they can somehow fix my problem without me having to send the notebook to a shop again.
Screw Dell, they suck.

Well, I learned that lesson the hard way.
Although I know people who own a Dell notebook and never had problems with them.
Dell seems to be one of those companies, when the product runs fine, you're home free (and for most people I know that's the way it is, they never encountered anything).
But if you have to rely on their tech-support, they punch you in the neck, put your ass on a table and put they corporate shlong up your ass...
Btw. couldn't they at least try to make it look like the tech-support was one of their own departments and not stupid sub-contractor.

at my old workplace we used Dell 100%. What I found out was that there a BIIIG difference between the normal support and the business support. We didn't have business support on all our hardware witch kinda sucked. Ask you to try 100 different things even tho you know what the problem is.

can't you just ask for your money back, if they keep failing to fix it? threaten them a bit, if you have to. there should be some organizations that protect the 'consumer' against this sort of crap and they'll prolly react if you mention that.

Well, so they sent a technichian by today who replaced my keyboard (which kept fucking me over) and the touch-sensitive-panel-thingie on top. (mind you at the time I wasn't home)
So I came home checked it out, and at first my problem didn't appear until like two hours ago.
So, Dell technical support got a new email for me, and this time a pretty pissed one.
Can't they just fucking replace my disc drive? I've read it all other the internets that the problem is either caused by the mainboard (which they replaced) or the disc drive (which they kinda don't wanna replace, I guess)
Let's see how they react this time.
Damn, this stupid back and forth bullshit goes on for almost three months now.
Yeah people, come on flame me and tell me how stupid I was for buying a Dell.
You wanna say something like that? Screw you.

That's a nice way to solve my problem.
They're gonna send me an identical laptop and exchange it for mine.
Awesome. Dell technical support, they may be a bit incompetent at times, but always friendly and trying to solve your problem.
Let's see and hope my problem is gone with the new one

Well, got my new Laptop on Thursday or so, haven't used it till yesterday, everything was cool.
I switch it on this morning and booyah, same problem again.
I don't even have the energy or the nerves to be pissed off like i was or should be.
Let's see what they have to say about that, I don't know if I wanna have my money back because, frankly, I like my notebook but I ain't gonna accept that it's just fucked up like that.
Well there's nothing to do but wait and see what they'll offer me.

Apple yes please! I'm a pc boy through and through, but for lappys it's a tough call. Their GFX cards always suck, but otherwise the lappys are rock solid and pretty and status items. Otherwise go Lenovo or something. Dells are good for business discounts, but for any other reason? ...

should have stuck with lenovo, the only company that knows how to build a laptop. They even come with a roll cage built in to help keep the system safe when dropping it.

ive dropped my macbook down a flight of stairs, spilt coke in it, dropped it off my desk, dropped it on the floor getting out of my car, and it still works perfectly fine. They are built solid, fast as fuck, highly compatible with absolutely anything (unless you wanna game) and look awesome.

When I see a mac, I think 'mong'. Although I'm not overly judgemental and can be convinced otherwise if the person has enough positive personality traits. Very Happy

Laptops ceased being a status item a few years ago, at uni over half the students seem to have one. Besides, it's not like they're expensive.

Sigh. I really despise when people just categorize mac like that. If you actually took the time to look at and use a macbook pro for a week you seriously would never ever ever ever buy a windows based laptop again.

Also, myself being in the design world would never consider anything other than mac for work. Windows is too unreliable and sucky. Its nothing to do with the 'status'. The Apple fanboys are just as bad as the anti-Apple fanboys Rolling Eyes

Disregarding how that reference makes little sense, I can tell you that I have nothing against Apple as a corporation. They make aesthetically pleasing, simple products that integrate derivative technology and then they market it as something innovative and stylish. That's just good business practice, only an idiot would deride a commercial company for maximising profit. Just like all the people with an irrational hatred of EA, for example.

But when someone is willing to sacrifice functionality, versatility and value for money just because they don't want to learn the intricacies of an actually rather simple interface or because the competing product was more shiny it just screams 'intellectually lazy' and superficial. These are not my kind of people.

The only valid reason is if you're a creative professional (you are not). Although I suppose some users might run other emulated operating systems. Of course naivety and ignorance are also reasons. This is why the Mac's market share is somewhere like 6%.

Also lets not forget that Jobs himself claimed that about half the Mac users are republicans, that already tells you all you need to know.

Actually, I am somewhat a creative professional. I design, build and launch websites for a living, along side vector based mascot's and several other internet money-cows.

I dont like my macbook just because its shiny and made by apple Rolling Eyes thats a pro but not a selling point unless you are a 15 year old with a rich parent to buy you a macbook to show off to your peers.

I like it because it does everything I want it to without hiccups, It installs programs with a drag of an icon into the applications folder, no drivers, no problems. I like it because its incredibly powerful for a small and light laptop. I like it because it has compatibility for almost every single form of media straight-from-the-box. I like it because in the entire 10 months of using it the thing hasnt crashed a single time Smile unlike every other laptop or computer ive owned which would crash on regular occasions due to incompatibility, operating system issues etc. I like it because it is indeed, derivative tech that is stylish as hell. I LOVE it because of how well it runs every single Adobe app in the master collection like a hot knife through butter. I like it because Applecare is the best 'warranty' cover i've ever had and not need to even use it once; regardless of using it 10+ hours a day, dropping it, spilling fluids on it and generally not treating it too kindly.

I really could go on all day.. the only con I can give you is perhaps the gaming side, its pretty sucky. But they are aimed more at the business users rather than the gamers. The whole myth that Mac cant do what PC can do is so 2001. Almost every piece of software/app that comes out is ported to mac now anyway, and to top that off with a nice shiny white cherry the software that isn't : someone somewhere has made a clone of it that does the same thing with even more features, I guarantee it.. The mac software industry is absolutely exploding right now.

I am considering getting an iphone now, for its full seemless integration with my macbook, twitter etc.

Nice defence Wgem, though you will find a lot of Mac users are incapable of making a legitimate argument for their purchase. Like I said, not all mac users are morons, maybe you're one that isn't.

So, another time for me to get pissed. And this time I'm seriously pissed.
So I've started reading and posting in the Dell community forum.
There are people who have the same problem and somebody actually suggested that "unplugging the battery and AC adapter for 10 minutes" would work. I tried, others have tried and it didn't work. (Obviously, why should it?) Nevertheless it got "verified" and the problem (at least forum wise) is solved. I call bullshit.
Others and I said so in our post and in the last 10 hours I got 2 of my posts deleted to apparent violations of the terms of services. Again I call bullshit.
What the fuck is wrong with those mods over there? Are they totally braindead? I feel betrayed and cheated as a customer. Worst of all I don't feel taken seriously over there.
All you get when your posts get deleted is some automatic generated crap that doesn't tell you shit.
God how that pisses me off. Stupid asswipes...

Can't believe that was a serious suggestion and even less that it was labeled a solution. It's more like those ctr-alt-del jokes. Rolling Eyes Reminds me of a thread here about some solution on experts-exchange where the person was told to try re-installing the app.
