FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!! I installed norton antivirus today because i suspected i had a virus, and scanned my hard drive. I didn't have any viruses though. So then i went and tried to extract a game i had just finished downloading, but it said i didn't have enough HD space, so i went to delete some old shit i no longer need. So i deleted "Thief 3", which was at least 1.5 gigs large. However, the fucking piece of shit norton recycle bin auto protection was on, and the game didn't get deleted, and thus did not free up any HD space. So i went to my recycle bin and selected "purge files" (which you have to do to delete the files) and wouldn't you know it, it didn't work!! I kept doing it, but nothing happened. I must have pressed that fucking purge button a million times to no effect, so i uninstalled norton antivirus, hoping it would solve my problem. It uninstalled alright, but it didn't give me my fucking HD space back!!!!! I'M MISSING 1.5 FUCKING GIGS FROM MY HARDDRIVE, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO GET IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!! I even used the windows search function to search for the filenames of the *.bin files thinking they were still on my harddrive, and it couldn't find them, meaning they are no longer on my computer! And yet i'm still 1.5 fucking gigs short!!!! The fucking files are gone and so is my fucking HD space!!!!! WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!! How the hell do i get it back!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I need my fucking space back, someone please tell me i won't have to reformat!!!!! Tell me there's a way to get it back without reformatting, or i'm committing suicide!!!!!!!!

Norton 2005 also has a wicked annoying worm prevention thing, fucking intercepts the stupidest shit and blocks it.

So annoying.

You dont use norton antivirus, use symantec antivirus corp. edition...its the same virus protection without all that shit attached.

I get no popups, no update notifications, no conflicts with other programs...when a virus is found, it tells me its destroyed, and im set...so easy Smile

If you had a clue how norton works you'd see that it controls your recycle bin so that key files won't be deleted and norton won't prejudge files so you have too and if that isn't too your liking just right click on your recycle bin and turn the recycle bin option off, you should clearly read the manual of a program before you curse it, IMHO only a moron try's to install an anti-v program after they have a bug , its like crappin before you pull your pants down.some people can be reached....

First try to be polite as you won't get any help talking the way you do. No one here care about your fucked space. And I'm sorry but when Norton crashes your system, the only real solution is a BIG format.
Next time, read some reviews when installing softwares and finally if you think we're assholes then why posting here ?

What is the best Antivirus software and what's the difference? I just use Norton 2005 cause I just want an virus scanner. I have it scan once a week while I'm sleeping.

I dont think choice of software really matters a great deal, its simply knowing how to use the software you choose. Not activating features that will annoy you and causes issues, knowing whats going to happen when and how it will effect your overall computer experience.

If your happy with 2005, then I dont suppose you need to worry.

Yeah I don't really care. I just want decent virus scanner. I turned that Internet Worm Protection off cause it was annoying me and is kinda pointless.

get Norton Antivirus 2003.
I tried the 2005 one and i deleted it in a matter of seconds.

Just update Norton AV regulary (or just autoupdate it) and u'll be fine.

About Hitman: Movie (2007)
Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.

Response: Well, Uwe Boll probably loved the Alone in the Dark games.

LOL. I had 2003, skipped 2004, and downloaded 2005. I don't know where my disc is for 2003 so I'm stuck with 2005.

I suppose thats something people always tend to do, assume that newer always equals up to better. Like I said before, soon people are going to start thinking SP2 is a good idea Wink!

I dont use AV software myself, Im not foolish enough to need it, the only time I check for viral is when a new worm hits the net, I tend to find my firewall takes care of it for me. In the past Ive had millions, I suppose Ive just learnt from experience how to avoid such things..

Use Panda Antivirus Titanium - it's so fast and neutralizes all the viruses without saying: The virus cannot be deleted (norton).

or use NOD32, i've heard it's really good too.

Hmm using 2004 no problems with that....

Though I still hate it's incredible use of the CPU when it's on Auto Protect...

PostPosted: Tue, 26th Oct 2004 16:39    Post subject: Real solution
Yeah, you could have made a decent post with your problem instead of all this shouting, but here's my solution to the problem:

Start ya pc in DOS as early as possible. DOSdisk, XP Pro-cd's semiDOS, or if neither can be done, simply from Windows->Run->CMD

Then go to the drive that's missing some space. cd Recycle, Recycler, Recycled. One of these three should be the map. Then empty all in it. If you can see a folder in it, enter it, delete contents, delete folder

Now there's the possibility there's a folder in it which won't be listed in DOS either. If I'm correct it was something like "Norton Protected Files" which will be NORTON~1
Enter it, delete all in it if possible. Prolly a lot of files won't be deletable. I'm still missing a total of 1GB on different HDs all together. By deleting things manually, I recovered about 6 gigs from a total of 7 missing from a 40GB HD.

Now, I might be wrong about the map names, but those can be found with Google of course. Something you should have done before asking here Smile

Install norton 2005 again, try to purge the files.. if that doesn't work then disable the Norton Recyclebin protection. If u still don't get ur space back.

download Treesize pro and uninstall norton.

http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/index.shtml

after u install it, right click on the C:/ drive and it will show u where all the gigabytes are stored... then look at the recycler folders like IceEyz mentioned and delete whats in them from within treesize.
If windows doesn't let u, try it in safemode.. if that also doesn't work for some reason.. then get a little utility called MoveOnBoot (move on boot)..

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html

install it and then boot into windows normally go into the folder that has the files , right click on them and choose the new option that came (delete on next boot)

reboot and everything would be gone, because it deletes before Windows File protection is loaded.

Another thing that should work, and normally deletes all the "hidden" files is when u defragment ur harddisk.

next time Serben try to be nice Smile

Word

Been using it for a while. SO MUCH BETTER.

Cleaner interface, no shitty extra stuff that just gets in the way, less mem usage too i think. Definately a better choice.

The solution would be to not use NAV, since NAV is shit (acts almost like a spyware)

Use SAV!

i hear panda is good, but also try symantec antivirus corp, just the basics, no giant footprint, a much better program over all... I think 9 is the latest version.

The lastest verison is 9.0.3.1000

I still can't believe that people are still using NAV... I am a part time computer techinician in a computer store, and I've seen a lot of my clients complain about windows problems, software anomalies, performance drop and such, and those problems were directly related to Norton Antivirus. When uninstalling NAV, the problems were gone and my clients were happy.

I prefer using NOD32. You can find it here: http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm

It is incredible fast, uses a very fast engine, and uses much less memory than any other antivir application. Also it is cheap, here in Hungary a one-year license costs about 20$.
Forget about NAV.

jep those nortontools suck indeed, got a new notebook @christmas with WinXPhome-sp2 and a shitload of norton stuff on it,
so 10minutes later i formatted the harddrive and began a clean install with my fav proggies.
The last time i installed norton-shit was about 1999/2000, and i was not happy bout it.

I prefer stuff like F-Prot Antivirus in combination with the Outpost Firewall.
F-Prot is cool, ya can get new definitions via public ftp, so my box is always up to date, i do not like those autoupdater.

but hey, theres one proggie made by Nortonlabs which rox -> da good olde NortonCommander, the only one from norton i trust in.

regards, HD

Use NOD32. Its much faster than Norton and if there is a virus or something like that it finds it.
NOD32 doesn’t have that shit thing like recycle bin protection or other resource hungry stuff.
I remember the time I had Norton anti virus. It crashed my pc many times and even when there was a virus it dint find it . And Norton is so dam slow and takes to much memory.

I only use Norton firewall because it’s easy to use and I don’t get any popup’s and adds on web pages. And it doesn’t ask stupid questions all the time like the Zone alarm or other firewalls did (maybe it’s just me).
And I have read some reviews that give high score for Norton firewall.
