"At PDC today, Microsoft gave the first public demonstration of Windows 7. Until now, the company has been uncharacteristically secretive about its new OS; over the past few months, Microsoft has let on that the taskbar will undergo a number of changes, and that many bundled applications would be unbundled and shipped with Windows Live instead. There have also been occasional screenshots of some of the new applets like Calculator and Paint. Now that the covers are finally off, the scale of the new OS becomes clear. The user interface has undergone the most radical overhaul and update since the introduction of Windows 95 thirteen years ago.

First, however, it's important to note what Windows 7 isn't. Windows 7 will not contain anything like the kind of far-reaching architectural modifications that Microsoft made with Windows Vista. Vista brought a new display layer and vastly improved security, but that came at a cost: a significant number of (badly-written) applications had difficulty running on Vista. Applications expecting to run with Administrator access were still widespread when Vista was released, and though many software vendors do a great job, there are still those that haven't updated or fixed their software. Similarly, at its launch many hardware vendors did not have drivers that worked with the new sound or video subsystems, leaving many users frustrated. "

Looks awful IMO, on par with the initial shock I had when I saw the Luna theme MS put in XP's betas instead of the much better Watercolor.

I never hated Vista's design, and I think it's fine as it is. When the final designs start the emerge, we'll see.

Finally. atleast one person not bashing the system... and one I can relate with. Vista (especially 64) is good if you got a powerful computer. Windows 7 is gonna be what Vista should have been.. its revamped Vista... although it 'should' be done as an upgrade in my opinion as they are ripping off their customers that bought Vista. Vista is still a decent OS when u start using it. But this will be what ME was to 98.

I always like the visual upgrade ... but in my case I'm not going to install vista on 3800+dc and 2gb ram, let alone a new OS Razz

did they really have to bring the whole ORB logo out by default? you can do it in Vista too, but then the taskbar will be a big shithole (like shown in with win7).

as there's saying "non-used memory is useless memory". vista should freeze up memory when you are running other resource hug ones. it's keeping most used ones in memory just in case you're going to activate it again (to boot them up fast).

I'm just saying that 2GB is fine but not enough for vista to run the way it's supposed to

Vista runs great even on my 1GB laptop (Server 08 was much faster, but no proper crack). Only time I feel slowness is when I had Oracle installed on it and running 3 Visual Studio 2008 instances, each with ReSharper.

Vista runs great on my 2gb laptop. But when I dual boot to Hacked MAC OS X it flies. Vista is a bloated oaf. I still use it for my HTPC though.

Likewise! I fucking LOVE Vista and I'm eagerly awaiting Win7. I've got the latest (WinHEC leak) build of Win7 .. but I think I'm just going to wait until January when the proper Beta comes out.
