I had random crashes from the beginning and thought it was the older drivers i had. After some more playing i had more and so i went and updated all my drivers. To no avail. The game still crashes

I m having an 8800gt with the latest beta drivers and a realtek hd onboard soundcard.

The crashes dont look like a typical sound-card crash though.

Anybody else getting random video-lockups with audio still playing in the background?

i pretty much ruled out CPU-overheating as it also happens with reduced multiplier. And google tells me that other people seem to have similar issues.

So if somebody finds a solution, post it here =)

There are many soundcard problems reported everywhere. Try to disable your soundcard in the devicemanger. If the game doesn't crash anymore then that is your problem.

i actually dont believe it is the sound, because the sound usually plays fine when i get the graphical glitches / crashes. Sometimes i get heavy texture fuckups but the game still plays, so i can quicksave and quit the game with a little guesswork (because the texture in the menu are also all fucked up).
I also noticed that the game seemed to be more prone to crashes when i was using the dragunov and / or driving around in the dune buggy.
But there are also crashes, where the system totally hangs and i have to reset the system. Those could still be sound-card related. Will see later today, if i can be bothered to do more troubleshooting to a game that obviously needs a patch or two Very Happy

and thanx for the reply Wink

Strange most of the time if the textures are messedup it is you graphix card that gets to hot. You could always try to underclock (not overclock) your card to lower speeds to test if that works. Also you can use an app called Rivaturner to monitor you temperature when playing the game. I have read on the ubisoft forum that farcry 2 isn't happy about overclocked hardware!

well, i thought the same at first, but my card isnt overclocked (my cpu is though, but checked that already) and other games like crysis warhead didnt overheat it. So i googled and found posts by other people via who seem to have the same issue, so its pretty damn certain its an issue with the game.

but as i said, if i can be bothered later on, i ll do some troubleshooting again, also with underclocking my gfx =)
