Just finished watching all The Shield seasons and want more Anybody know of decent TV series? I heard The Wire could be good, so I'll try this one. But any other suggestions? I live in Poland where The Shield doesnt actually exist so only torrented or "p2p'ed" series are interesting to me. There is no way to buy something else besides Lost, Prison Break or 24 (which i luuuuv).
Much better than The Shield in terms of characters and story, and also realism (po-licework ). Absolutely recommend it.
You do realise that different divisions in different departments have different ways of policing, even if the differences are minor in some cases. Anti-gang units aka strike teams exist in some of the more gang dominated areas, and they actually do things similar to how the team in The Shield conduct themselves, minus the brutality of course.

Of course. But still The Wire is more accurate when it comes to this. Also, The Shield is more about camaraderie and the likes. It doesn't really focus too much on police chores, with the exception on maybe the detectives, which are just minor characters.
Dam! Just started to watch The Wire, had to finish The Shield S1-6 first.
If The Shield is a cool action type cop series, The Wire is just über cool, plain and simple!.
Love it, and the good thing is...I have 6 more seasons to watch .
Oh and another thing, just love that the bad guys are riding Mitsubishi's .
Ive watched all seasons of The Wire, some episodes where boring, but on the other hand some where really great.
For me thats a series that you have to watch a couple of episodes in a row to really enjoy it.
I can't see how I would be watching an episode, then wait a day/week to see the next one. Some episodes just builds for the next ones, and don't really have anything happen in them.
I recommend it greatly.
Now I enjoy watching the new The Shield season.
Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.
Yeah, and the last shot of Frank Sobutka's poster was very sad.
Now I want to redownload the whole series... Is the last season out on DVD yet?
I liked the second season a lot as well. Maybe I could connect with it more since I am interested in labour and decline of good manufacturing/industrial jobs in N.America. Frank Sobatka was an interesting character ... seemed like the kind of guy that just wanted what was best for his workers but somewhere along the way got off track.

The Wire has been described as an examination of how the failure, amorality, and corruption within institutions eventually destroy the essentially decent individuals involved with them; within the series Frank Sobotka has come to be the classic epitome of such an individual.
Great, thanks, then it's a couple of days on the usenet then, gonna download the entire The Wire DVD sets and watch them on the quality this show deserves.
S4 was also really good. It's amazing how well they are able to portray social decays as well as police work. The degradation in schooling systems due to crime and the tragedies that happen to kids because of it was done amazingly.
Also, the legalization of drugs, as proposed in S3 was also a very serious issue worth exploring. But hey, it's too liberal for retarded American government to really look into seriously...
My fav season of The Wire would be....i don't know...maybe S3? The drug legalisation shit was fucking awesome. Really got me thinking about "what would have happened if". Season 2 was also cool. The first season starts a bit too slow but those characters (especially McNulty and his face expressions plus Bunk and his language)...
RIght now i'm enjoying new season of THe SHield which fucking owns - plain and simple! (although i have to wait for at least english subs... )
Just finished watching s02e02 of the Wire here (home sick so I have the time ). 1st I though this whole harbour blue collar stuff would be boring, but NA!, after this episode I can see that season 2 is gonna be awesome.

Why is that?, your English seems to be pretty good!. But yea, The Shield is a very good series. Can't wait for next weeks episode .

Let me recommend Underbelly. Very good Australian show, dealing with real events that occurred between 1995-2004.

Well, i don't have any problems with writing or reading but sometimes the dialogs are too fast. I watched ALL "Married With Children" eps (that's a fucking lot of episodes!) without subs because it's a sitcom - every word is loud & clear plus it's usually spoken with normal speed.
Today's shows that i watch are rather action-oriented therefore dialogs are usually pretty fast
Hopefully today i'll get some subs for new eps of The Shield and Sons Of Anarchy (HIGHLY recommended!)
Watching s05e04 of "The Wire" at the mo, yes I did watch s01-s04 in about 7 days
But I must say this series is truly EPIC! nothing I have seen beats it, not even close. Watched the latest episode of "The Shield" earlier, and it almost felt...well, like naive and childish in comparison.
Though I love "The Shield" it don't even come close to the depth and variety of the characters in "The Wire".
I wish I watched this series earlier. Thanks to all the guys that tipped me off on this, REALLY!.
It is like reading a GOOD book!, not many films or TV series that come close to that.
Love the way that characters come back and are intertwined from one season to the next etc. BRILLIANT!. This is not the story about some cops, this is the story about a CITY! and that's no small feat.
The story boards for this series must be over 10000 miles long .
You guys ever see the episode of the shield where the captain guy chews out that bald dude (main character) in his office. After he leaves, he opens up the closet door and a hooker pops out and then he goes to desk, grabs some crack and gives it to her. She's about to light it up and he's like "are you stupid? do that shit by the window"
LMAO classic
Ive only seen a few eps of the shield but that one is gold i tell ya
Yep, remember that ep The ho was the bald guys' (Mackey's) friend/ex.
Also i remember one of the best The Wire moments (one of the latest series) - when McNulty is fucking some girl on the car and a patrol car spots them (McNulty shows his badge so he and his ho are left alone) Fucking epic!
