I know I'll get eatin up by some for saying this, and by all means do.
I absolutely HATE halo in every way and form, but I honestly think they perfected the controls for it. I play it just for co-op even with my gf's kid and even he can handle it. I tried the darkness once and I just couldn't get it.
Next to that, RARE's games on the N64 (prefect dark & golden eye)

COD4 has pretty comfortable controls.

BioShock was a great game but the controls were kinda crappy. Aim sensitivity was awkward and it didn't even have option for Southpaw.

My mind is drawing a blank. I can cope with Killzone 2's control scheme, and not feel the need to whine about it, but it's definitely crappy. Other than that my memory is telling me Goldeneye 64... but I must have played some FPS games after that, right?*

I just played goldeneye 64 again a while back, and I was surprised at how horrible the standard control scheme was. You don't realize how nice free aim is until you don't have it. The fact that you have to press R to aim up is really cumbersome.

I think you can aim up and down with the yellow up and down buttons

FEAR2 has surprising good controls for a relatively low profile game.

Bad Company controls are pretty good for a console, but comparing console FPS controls to PC is like comparing a 70 year old cripple in a wheelchair and a 20 year old athlete marathon runner.
