by the way. in addition to being convenient in that you don't need a cd...
do you fucking remember updating games back when you had to download individual files and you never knew which ones you needed, and even the update program had to be updated... It got so bad that right before steam was released, it was incredibly hard to find a working mirror with the full update and too confusing to use anything else... steam is thousands of magnitudes easier than the old system, but hey, it inconveniences the pirates! down with it!

Wait for a fix....some people who got a legit account and theres a key about it in the registry of their computer make update 9 working for them.

If you have a valid key (like an old HL1 key that you haven't used for instance) then you can register with your Steam account and still use ppatcher to play all games (even Source). Updates 9 doesn't fix the ticket issue and won't for anyone that's already got it. Be patient, there are several people trying to find the root of the issue.
