So I've got a new laptop coming, with Vista Home 64bit installed already. I'd like to do a clean install right out of the box but unfortunately the CD included already comes with bloat on it.

Can I download a Vista 64 Home image and use the Key from the bottom of the laptop?

I really don't want to deal wtih the whole activation hassle, especially when I have a legit key.

If this works should I just download a retail DVD image? If I download a "pre-activated" one, will I have any problems putting in a legit key?

Yes you can use a legit key on an install you do yourself as I believe the keys for even 32bit if legit work on 64it etc.... You always get the chance to input a legit key if your pre activated one (cracked) gets messed up anyway so as long as its valid serial you should be good to go. Or you could just go through your install and remove the bloat ware bit by bit..
The only thing to remember is that on some or most probably today laptops, the pre installs from shops come with other software needed for your setup, like the mouse tablet and so forth.. but if needs be you should be able to grab that off the web anyhow. Vista installs may come with those drivers etc needed anyhow, but again alway go to the laptop makers site to make sure you update to the latest etc etc.

dont forget the certificate for the oem your installing otherwise it wont work(activation)
the whole "thing" with oem activation "pre-activated" is the key matches the bios which matches the certificate installed on your laptop.
so if u do fresh install of the same version of vista its fine as long as u import the certificate for your oem after that.

Just make sure you download the drivers for your laptop hardware, like the touchpad, webcam, card-readers.

The rest is just the same as for installing windows on desktop.

some seperate drivers for laptops can be bitchy for vista x64
may not work properly and minor annoyances, especially on mashcines that come with 2 gigs of ram, not like u will feel the difference if u install x32 or x64

just get latest ultimate build of BIE and u should be fine

Alright thanks everyone. I've got a legit vistax64 disk from a friend and I've found a program that works around having to call microsoft to do a clean install using an oem key. I'mma save all of the drivers onto an external HDD just incase I can't find newer ones, although from the looks of it I can.
