If you could go ahead 10 years in time only for the purpose of playing pc games, and you had the option to choose your first game would you choose a game that comes out from todays date to a year or would you see how far gameplay/graphics have been taken?

10 years from now everyone will be playing what's current and bitching about how no one lieks old games because the GFX sucks too bad. DII has been going on for years so I'm pretty sure if they don't fuck DIII up it'll have the same run.,

I of course will be playing the new games that come out but playing legacy games will always be an option. I still replay deus ex from time to time.

First thing I would do is go to forums like this one and see people bitching and crying how Elder Scrolls 7 is so dumbed down compared to the hardcore Oblivion.

I'd check what the 'WoW' of the industry is then, and when I come back, I'd invest in the company that is going to make that game.

Of course, it doesn't take a time machine to tell that's probably going to be WoW 2... Very Happy

I just threw up in my mouth thinking of the future console players - just like the people in Idiocracy - oogling and drooling at the graphics, and of course whining about how the 3 stat and 4 skill hardcore RPG character creation is too complicated.

I just hope all this skill and stat crap will just go away and be entirely based on the players skill. Off goes shit like probability of critical hit, in go dozends of new hitboxes... if I can aim well enough with my mouse I can just shoot him in the eye and blind him, ha!

No crappy skill like Alchemy that just magically allows the character to brew mystical potions out of a root and some health magic, no, first find or buy all the glasses and cylinders required, then sit around in game for hours on a camp fire and mess around with some leaves you found on some random bush and try on your own what happens if you drink it.

I hope for something like that... basically real life just with dragons or supermutants Razz

On topic:

I'll probably still pirate games and play Diablo III and II occasionally and hold all other games up to that standard.

Well then they wouldn't be RPG's anymore, since character creation and enhancement is such an integral part of the genre. Not to say the games you describe couldn't coexist with them, something like that done well could be fantastic... I'm just against over-simplification of things. Wink

RPGs *should* be stat-based. That's what makes them RPGs. If you don't want stats, then what you really want is another genre( i.e. freeform FPS games like Stalker ).

And yeah, I really hope the simplification trend will turn around, although I really doubt it; we *are* turning into the people in Idiocracy, unfortunately.

Man, this poll is ridiculous.

BTW, I bet DX15 won't be released in 10 years. Max DX12, and DX13 is a ugly name, so it won't be released at all.

About D3, in 10 years I will be tired to play it, for sure.

maybe in 10 years we have some state of the art virtual reallity device with our own suit what gives a small electric shock on the point you get hit.

No doubt my choice will be this one. If this would happen i would be the happiest man on earth.
Hope they make somer eating and drinking warnings in or i might die during a game.

You are very optimistic thinking that PC gaming will be still alive in 10 years from now. If you think that people will play same old games but with slightly improved graphics then you are dead wrong.

Want to make a 1 million bet that PC gaming "will be alive" in 10 years? If you really think it's dying just crawl back into Idiocracy.

i had a dream about the game industry and in the future they make games that are good and require NO PATCHES to make em smoother or bug free because they all ready are perfectly coded and designed, games with top notch graphics run smooth even on 1yr old systems (thanks to innovative compatibility systems) and every game will have a storyline! and the oversimplified crap will be left to the few drooling console "doods". ofcourse to balance all the good games there would also be the crap ones, but fewer so we could appreciate the goodies.

yea thats probably sci-fi utopia I just wrote about...

what we will see tho is "final fantasy LIV (54): another adventure of an EMO, whiny, girlie lookin colorful shirt wearing dude with a stupid hair"

computer costs way less than 10 years ago, and believe me thats the trend... in 10 years the cost/performance ratio is probably down by another 50% or more (cheaper to buy).

This is easy. The game will turn on, require you to push one button on a genuine xbox2k19extreme720ultra controller and then give you a blowjob while showing you a life like tree.
then play a "you won" screen.

There won't actually be a game industry anymore. The developers will have become so obsessed with graphics that they'll all be making non-interactive animation movies showing off their cool effects.

games won't get real environment or dimension even in 10 or 30 years. what do you mean by real? photorealistic textures? take a look at Max Payne (2001) then - it had scanned pictures of every object

virtual reality is too deep topic, and to execute it 1:1 as real life it's fuck as hard to do.

Actually, it's more like impossible, no matter how good our technology. We'll never be able to replicate real life 1:1, there's just too much stuff.

At any rate, he probably meant that within ten years there's gonna be a nuclear war here on earth, so we'll all be in the Fallout scenario in real life.
