Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 officially announced

It's not exactly a huge shock but it's still very cool to hear the official news. MTV Multiplayer reports that during a presentation for advertisers at Microsoft's in-game ad division Massive it was revealed that Activision will be releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the fall of 2009.

While the report had no other details, it's likely that Infinity Ward is the developer for the game. They created the franchise and also were the team behind Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007 which was by far the most successful entry in the series. The title seems to suggest that the new game will be a direct sequel to the events in Call of Duty 4. The report also has reveals of other upcoming Activision games which are likely console only titles (including a James Bond themed racing game from Bizarre Creations).

I will make a proper template soon.
Very good news. Smile

Might contain spoilers.

Funny, I didn't think anyone survived in COD 4 but I guess new characters could be created in a similar setting/story instead of doing a sequel.

I thought the British solider you played as did survive. I assume the story could have the character reassigned and simply play as him again.

I heard a rumor about COD5 some time ago. Apparently the game should be about Operation Anaconda that took place in Afghanistan a couple of years ago. Imho that could be pretty sweet running around in caves and deserts and mountains. But I do think that it will be somehing entirely fictional that is inspired by current events world wide.

What do you guys think?

if its anything like it was when i was there it was all but sweet. the mountains were freezing cold, the desert area was hot as shit and the only action I took part in (since I was a scout) was calling for fire on villages and shooting at people way out of range of my m4 (although my team leader was hitting people with the m21).

the engineers just went through caves and mountains that the air force blew up and took blood samples off dead bodies to test in hopes that one of them would be bin ladens.

most of the action was just dropping bombs or the mortar platoons, not much close combat like there is in cod games.

CoD5 (WaW) has been out for a month now and pretty much sucked (except for the multiplayer crowd who seem to be completely oblivious to the poor quality of the game compared to CoD4).

This thread is about CoD6 btw. Wink

Exactly, that's the whole point. My opinion is better than everybody elses opinion and they should think like I do. I mean, you're my little butt puppy so obviously the rest of the world should be as well, right?

Well, I didn't mean sweet as a sweet vacation Smile And I don't want to disrespect your opinion or anything. But as i remember it, Operation Anaconda went horribly wrong, some Seals and Deltas supposedly got killed in an ambush and something about a Chinook going down. I guess we can just google it for the facts.

Take a successful game and add a 2 after it's name to get more money, even if the "successful game" was already the fourth of a series. I hope it lives up it's name.

Just hope that it'll be longer, have the same awesome atmosphere and be both visually stunning and not very PC-demanding, just as 4 Smile.

Just cause CoD:WaW doesn't have a number in the title, doesn't mean they skipped a number. That's silly Wink

I read somewhere that they will stop using numbers in the COD franchise...

Found it.
Quote:
“We’re getting rid of the number in Call of Duty for a very specific reason,” said senior producer Noah Heller. “It’s because we want you to know that when you’re playing Call of Duty: World at War you’re playing the best shooter, the best WW2 game ever. Likewise when you’re playing Modern Warfare, likewise when you play any game that will be called Call of Duty.”

It doesn't really matter if they officially use numbers or not, CoD: MW2 is in effect the 6th Call of Duty game. Or 4th if you ignore the Treyarch games (3 & 5).
