for the gamesave, details on boxart are up to developers, they can either put gamesave file size or install size. GT5 prologue is prime example with 250KB. Rockstar have recently said that the PS3 requires a install but thaven't said how much.

Sorry to bring up again the topic for a simple question...:
found this Western Digital (WD) Scorpio 250GB 2.5" SATA http://www.bigbruin.com/2007/wdscorpio250_6
What's better,250GB or a bit more?...i'm not goin' 2 put music, just movies (Store) and pictures, also all the demos i like...but of course i've got a few games that needs a HDD INSTALL...the question is,is this HDD recommended?..if so,250GB or more?

I've heard of people using their iPods to do that, maybe look into it if you have to but I wouldn't think it's a very fast method.
I have the 40GB PS3, and it's getting to the point where upgrading is starting to feel essential if I don't want to have to delete game data on a regular basis, (and lets face it with a 5200rpm install speed I really don't). In which case, 250GB sounds more than enough to me. I have music, pictures, a few AVI's and a plethora of PSN titles and BD gamedata saves on my current system. The only way I'd see you needing more is if you used something like PlayTV or the Movie store.
I'd be interested to see the difference between a higher RPM drive though. I know there has been tests on the internet which appear to show no difference, but I'm not convinced (in that stubborn, IT CAN'T BE sort of way). I've had a PC which had low install speeds like the PS3 and it's was down to the hard-drive - my laptop is the same. Why would a higher RPM drive not have the same impact in a PS3?

i would get then a 160GB HDD...then backup my stuff on another 160GB,since i dun buy movies (european/Spanish me)...i've got 8,8GB left (11GB before installing HOME Beta) and the only games i've bought on the store are:
Ratchet n Clank Future "expansion"
The Last Guy (Free)
Warhawk
GO!SUDOKU
and the installs for Devil May Cry 4,Resistance 1 n 2,Ninja Gaiden Sigma,MGS4 and a few other games...my PS3's the first 60GB model.
So,do you recommend me a Samsung 160GB HDD SATA 2.5" HDD?..also,for backups (whole system,saves..) what external HDD would you recommend me?...

You need to upgrade the hard drive because of forced installs from the games? It is a forced send to the the hard drive?
Wow all this time I thought bluray was the answer, when is mgs on dvd9 for xbox360?

I'm buying a 40gb PS3 today or tomorrow with MGS and thats the only reason why I want one because of MGS. So the people who have a 40gb PS3 here is it worth to upgrade in the future?
I like bum.

It's like having a PC. Eventually you're going to get to the point where upgrading makes more sense than constantly freeing up space for new installs. It's not convenient having to delete old data, and 40GB (which in practice translates to around ~30GB) isn't a lot. So upgrading is eventually going to be preferable but if you're literally (?) just using it for MGS then I can't see why you'd ever actually need to upgrade.
I have GTA4, MGS4, GT5p, Burnout Paradise, WipEoutHD, Valkyria Chronicles, LittleBigPlanet, various PSN titles like Pixeljunk Eden, Racers, Monsters, Super Stardust HD, flow, plus PS1 titles Rainbow Six and Destruction Derby all installed with a small collection of MP3's, the AVI of Dark Knight, some home video clips and pictures from my camera. It's not like I'm struggling for space, but I'm definitely feeling the squeeze.

The 250GB isn't that much more expensive so I'd actually go for that. If you do get a 7200RPM drive though let us know what the install speeds are like in comparison to the default. As for external backup, do you not have any spare drives laying around you can just attach to a dongle?

i would get it then,but 5400RPM so it wont blow/burn the console away ^^;
I've got a hard drive..the bad thing is..it's NTFS format ^^;;;;..it's a Maxtor OneTouch 7 or something with a lighty button (i just drag n drop files there)
i dont own a super hard drive,no matter stick or external,to save 55GB of stuff

You can get 7200RPM 250GB drives.
I didn't realise the PS3 required you to use the FAT32 file system for backing up (?), but you should be able to format that Maxtor to FAT32 unless you've got stuff on there you have to keep and can't store elsewhere temporarily. I reckon that would be the way to go if you can, as it'll save you having to buy another drive to backup to.
If not, you'll want to buy an enclosure/dongle for connecting drives to your PS3 (plus that way you can also make use of the old PS3 drive when you're finished). You'll have to buy another drive though (to make the initial backup) so two drives to buy and an enclosure/dongle.

If you had an 80GB iPod for example you could use that?
