X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Quote: |
Raven's back with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a big-budget movie tie-in:
Activision Publishing, Inc. has released new details on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, whose titular hero is one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time. The video game, scheduled for release in May 2009, coincides with the global debut of Twentieth Century Fox's release of its feature film, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, which is also based on the famous Marvel character.
From the award-winning studio Raven Software, the video game enlists players to experience the tormented origins of Wolverine, from his escape of the Weapon X facility to the jungles of Africa and beyond. The game is currently in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, Windows PC, Wii home video game system, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, and is not yet rated by the ESRB.
"We have an amazing team with Raven Studios at the helm, creating what will undoubtedly be the quintessential, true-to-character Wolverine video game experience that fans have been craving," said Rob Kostich, vice president, global brand management, Activision Publishing, Inc. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine amps up the action by bringing to life Wolverine's wholly unique skills such as his brute strength, regenerative mutant abilities, and indestructible adamantium claws and skeleton in an immersive experience that is fitting to one of the most enduring and popular characters of all time."
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is an epic action-adventure featuring a true-to-character Wolverine gameplay experience that takes gamers through and beyond the movie's storyline. Set in a variety of vivid real-world locales, the title challenges players to hone their animal instinct as they uncover hidden dangers, hunt and destroy enemies, and take on seemingly insurmountable situations while discovering the truth about Wolverine's tragic past. With razor-sharp adamantium claws unsheathed, the future X-Man enacts lightning-quick combat, evasive maneuvers, in-depth combo attacks, and an array of brutal finishing moves. Wolverine doesn't just deliver massive damage, either -- he also takes it, thanks to his mutant regenerative power that heals him in real time right before the player's eyes.

Has there ever been a Marvel game where Wolverine's healing ability actually works like it's supposed to?

has there been a marvel-xmen game other than ultimate alliance and legends that didn't suck? The last two times they tried to make an xmen/wolverine game it failed horribly

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Preview
Raven's X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie tie-in is a standard God of War-style brawler, it would appear:
"God of War was an influence. Devil May Cry, even Super Smash Bros., to a point," Vondrak says. "When we play [games like that], we just like the simplicity. Every character has their basic set of moves -- that's simple. People get that, and mass market gets that, so we're making sure we bring that to Wolverine." Wolvie really struts his stuff when dealing with Origins' plentiful soldiers, ping-ponging between foes, engaging enemies behind him without turning around, and dealing death with a fluidity usually reserved for fighting games. "People are going to play Wolverine and then be annoyed with how slow other action games are," says Vondrak. "We've gone back and played highly touted action games we all love, and you're in these attacks forever. And it's not just the speed -- it's the ease in which you're able to [break] out of your attacks at any time."

So did they fuck up Deadpool for Marvel Movieverse?
Because Deadpool > Wolverine so long as he has the healing factor.

Wow, looks pretty good. Only thing, don't mean to nitpick but look how long his adamantium claws are! They are suppose to be as long as his forearms, wrist to before the elbow, where they are sheathed. Looks to weird! Oh well, Shnickity Shnickity! shall I call you Logan Weapon X

the colour palette is similar to rise of the argonauts, and yeah, looks like ut3.
i wonder if this is the cheapest 3d game engine out there, because it seems to be pretty widely used, even though the games usually end up looking like crap.

New screens, perhaps the shirt destruction works as a visual cue for how much health Wolverine has left?
(Kinda similar to the heart tattoo of Trespasses, hehe.)
EDIT: Or so I thought, seems these were already posted in that 1Up article a few posts above.

Pre-order the game (Or just buy it?) via GameStop and get bonus stuff.
(Not really important I guess but worth mentioning, more and more titles or perhaps it would be better to say publishers and developers make use of similar deals for a variety of reasons.)
