Hola Smile

Since looking at this thread http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50653
DCS: Black Shark and lock on.
I've always wanted to play a top simulation game with detail like in them 2 games but with loads of vehicles like planes, helicopters, tanks, armoured vehicles, soldiers etc, but i've never found 1?
Is there any really good 1s with good gfx etc that's worth buying?

Thanks Smile

Got to be multi player etc to.

The closest I can think of:

ARMA, released (and ARMA2 expected for 2009)

Operatiom Flash Point, dated
Operatiom Flash Point 2 (expected for Q3 2009)

google it

there's a bunch of simulator types
there's platform simulation like flight simulators, tank simulators, etc
then there's tactical combat simulators, like arma, flashpoint and (early) rainbow six

the platform ones are usually limited to just few similar things, like commercial aircrafts or ww2 submarines etc
some of my favourites;
for modern naval warfare?
dangerous waters
has nuclear attack submarines, limited action aircraft, antisubmarine helicopters and surface destroyer ships - all of which you can control
flight simulation is way out of the scope of this game.. it emphasises the role of platform leadership, placing you as the commander of your chosen platform
so you need a flight simulator like falcon 4.0 or lock-on to complete the set and have the full naval battlefield
if you want to go one level higher and command entire naval fleets, get fleet command, harpoon (both ten years old, but still valid) or the open source, still alpha stage global conflict blue (no release in a year Sad )

modern land warfare?
bohemia's flashpoint practically invented the infantry simulation, which included grossly simplified tank, helicopter and aircraft elements
their follow-up arma improved on that and further, arma2 is due early 2009
as said, their platform simulations are very simple, but sufficient to play their part in the infantry structure of the game
tank simulation - steel beasts
uncracked and carrying a ridiculous price tag of $125
the ultimate modern tank simulation, but come on

other than that i can't really think of anything
ww2 simulations are a genre of their own though, and there's a bunch of those

Yeah Arma pretty much rocks. There are 'cooperative' servers where you can 'liberate' the island the game is based on. Somehow those maps have built in mods with features, such as ranks, participate in capturing towns, kills, repairs, healing and you gain ranks and acces to new goodies.

Red Orchestra is worth a look. I prefer OpFlash/ArmA for infantry, but the tank battles in RO are something else.

Browse through this tactical guide for Arma, you'll see this is prolly the no. 1 choice for realism.

Personally, Id stay the hell away from ArmA/ArmA 2 (same as ArmA with some crap that was supposed to be in ArmA bolted on). It isnt realistic at all and is plagued with bugs and problems.

PRMM - www.realitymod.com absolutely destroys ArmA in terms of realism and has a much better community.

OFP 2 could be very good and only time will tell. If you can put up with OFP 1's graphics, it is an excellent game (probably the best of its type).

Armed Assault is Operation Flashpoint without the single-player polish. Both games, on release, were bug infested, sloppy-rough-around-the-edges affairs. Patched up they are the best in the business, especially online or with user-made missions and modifications.

I've been meaning to check out OFP for quite a while now but I'm not sure how good the single player is and I can't really play online because of my crummy internet connection. So is it worth playing for the singleplayer alone? Is the AI any good?

Buy them single though as if you buy it all in one it'll be a ripoff.

Maybe I exaggerated a little, got an AMD X2 @ 3ghz, 8800GT and 2 gigs of ram but from the videos and screens I don't think it'll be enough. Sad

I don't think you need a CD key to play online. I remember lending a friend a copy and I played against him online. I could be wrong though, it's been years since I tried it.

Buy 2 more gigs of identical ram if you're motherboard supports it and install windows vista so then you can use all the memory, i have 4 gigs on xo pro now and it uses 3.25 gig max.
