|
 |
So I've installed Vista on my "lesser" drive (80Gb), while XP remained on the bigger one (500Gb). Everything went fine except now I can't load XP.
First there is no boot load screen, and when I set up in BIOS that comp should load from 500Gb disk I get the message NTLDR is missing.
Now I know there's no boot.ini in Vista (damn you Salazar!!), but there is that bcdedit. But I don't know what to do in it, as I've never used it, and I don't want to make things worse. And I really need contacts and email from Xp (yeah, I should make those goddamn backups more often, but...).
I tried to find sth on google, but no luck, so I'm relying on the good lurkers of Nfohump to help the poor me

I would like to have a choice whether to go to XP or Vista. Back when I had Vista and Xp installed I believe it was when I had formated drives so I could do whatever I wanted , I installed Vista first, and Xp second, so there was no problems with booting. I just want boot screen

For most NTLDR missing crap, if you want to recover XP, boot using the Windows XP installation disk, press R, then type the following commands (E: stands for your dvd/cd drive letter):
FIXMBR
FIXBOOT
BOOTCFG /rebuild
cd\
copy E:\i386\NTLDR
ATTRIB -arsh ntldr
copy E:\i386\NTDETECT.COM
ATTRIB -arsh ntdetect.com

thnx, but I did that. I remembered that I had similar problem and I did that fixmbr in recovery console. It works now, I got outlook stuff and bookmarks but I'll cp this for later use
btw if I do this again, will Vistas boot loader recognise old xp? Now I only have Vista, and if I want to go into xp, I have to go to bios to change settings, which is pain in the ass... Thnx for help sensi!!
