If you have enough space on the one HDD where XP is, you can resize the partition and install on the new partition (you can even do it from the Vista install program; if you want to install xp64, you need to use an external tool like Pargon Partition Manager.) Smile

That's pretty much it, if you have any problems just check few threads down Very Happy btw it doesn't really matter where you install it, it's a matter of choice...

As long as it's not the partition with the XP. Smile

Sorry to bump this thread, but I have a question regarding the resizing of the XP partition.

I remember creating a dual-boot system in the past where the Vista installer gave me the option of creating a separate partition on the XP drive. However, when I tried to do the same thing today, the 'New' option is greyed out. What does the 'Extend' option do ?

I currently have 2 partitions (which are effectively 2 drives) :

- C is where XP is currently installed and where I want to create a separate Vista partition to dual boot

- D holds my installed games

What is my best option ?

BTW I'm trying to install a bie release (Vista Ultimate X64 SP1 Integrated August 2008 - will I be able to update the installation through Windows Update ?

Thx

could be to create an extended partition. I don't remember there being anything about partitioning when installing windows. I would just make another primary partition and install vista on that. I use some acronis boot CD to do my partitioning. I have XP x32 and vista x64. I mean it's pretty simple. Create another partition by resizing one of your other ones, format it as NTFS, and install vista on that. I don't see a problem.

Also yes, you can use windows update with any of the BIE releases. I personally like to use a virgin vista DVD and install the emulation myself. Another thing is what's the point of installing games on another partition on the same drive? I would think it will lower the efficiency since each partition is hit at the same time for resources when the game is running. Could be wrong.

Thanks for your answer Cool

Any experience with Paragon Hard Drive Manager ?

Btw games are installed on a separate drive, not a partition on the same drive. Sorry for my choice of words Smile

don't remember, but any partitioning software would do. What you want to do is so common that any partitioning software would do it. I did experience problems in the past when trying to use software straight from the OS, I would suggest making a boot disk if paragon can, if not then just use it from the OS and there probably won't be any problems. You'll be asked to reboot before your changes are applied.

paragon is great, moved over to it when i got vista, as partition magic wasn't compatible.
Used to use paragon partition manager, but only had home edition. Now i have server2k8 as multi boot with vista/xp/win7 the home edition wont run as it detects as server install (even when not in server2k8). Grabbed, paragon hard drive manager (which includes partition manager) which works fine with no complaints about a server.
