Just picked up one of these chips, should be here today.
Anyways, its a chip that allows you to connect your PC USB to your Wii and stream Wii and gamecube ISOs to it.
www.flatmii.com
Ill post back when i get it working.
If you have a broken wii with a DRE you can install this and bypass the cd drive all together.

I've read a little about this... I've got some questions...
Will it load scene ISOs?
Will it load scrubbed wii releases?
How are the load times?
Do you need to install any sort of homebrew...
If this thing will load any ISO it might be worth getting so I don't have to keep buying stacks of DVDs.
Still I was really hoping for some sort of homebrew that would load ISOs from a USB hard drive.
Thanks man

just look at the current prices of dvd-5 and how much wii games there are actually worth burning...and chips like wiikey or wasabi have a much larger user base = dev support and that's what counts imho when selecting a modchip.
anyway, if you've got a htpc and a broken drive, it sure would be the ideal solution - but that's it.

I soft modded my wii, so this will be the first chip. I'm going to wire it into my MAME cab i have in the basement. Im hoping it will give full speed drive access since the twilight hack only runs at 3X.
Ill keep you posted Esel when i get it up and running. i got all but two tri wings out without the screw driver, but the last to are being a bitch, so im waiting for the screw driver that they forgot to send with my package.

Couldn't agree more... For now I will stick to my gamma loader and a fresh stack of dvds

I think with shipping it was $64.95 then $8 bucks overnight shipping. This included the tri wing screw driver, which they forgot to ship, but its on its way to me now. Hopefully the tri wing will be here today, if not ill update on Monday.
Cheers
Edit. I got it from www.modchips.ca

Quote: | The incredibly savvy Matrix team has exclusively lifted the lid on their upcoming product - the WiiZii! The Matrix WiiZii is a completely solderless plug and play modification which works on ALL Wii versions. Once installed, the WiiZii allows you to do all the things you'd expect from a Wii modification device but brings with it one incredibly special feature - the ability to connect an external HARD DISK DRIVE drive (via SATA) and enjoy super quick loading of ISO and homebrew files on the Wii. But thats not all, this intelligent pice of kit also comes with 2MBit of memory and its firmware can easily be updated in the future. Some might say this is all just to Easy, we mean WiiZii! Click the image below to see a WiiZii prototype installed into the Wii. More details will follow next week! |
Just saw this
I'm going to keep an eye on it.

Yea. I may have jumped the gun on the flatmii, that wiizii looks better if the said browser works. Anyways, still waiting on my tri wing.

Ok.
First, i would advise everyone to hold off on this mod. I got it installed last night, but cannot seem to get it to work.
If its unplugged, my wii works fine, originals and backups via gamma. If i connect the usb, my computer finds it as a flatmii, then i install the drivers, but the device doesn't seem to want to connect. And if i leave the flatmii on, it sends my wii to an error screen after about 30 seconds.
Ive contacted there customer support, and i keep this thread updated on how well they support there product.

Everything is up and running great.
There support was very good, and very quick.
One of my usb cables was not 2.0 certified. Flatmii wasn't getting enough power. So it was the installers fault.
I installed it in combo mode. Disks via gamma and isos via flatmii work great.
Also, it seems to be running alot faster than gamma. Im not sure if its 6x but intro videos (Such as Mario galaxy) that used to play jerky in gamma, play smooth with flatmii.
Every ISO i have thrown at it runs perfect if i just mount the iso and run via disk channel. Auto load option in flatmii doesn't work to well, caused the wii to freeze.
Chip install was a snap, but the usb connector seems very fragile.
Now i am going to try and network ISOs from my desktop to my Mame computer i have the flatmii connected to, and see if i can stream through my network then to the flatmii.
Overall im impressed and i would recommend the flatmii.
