|
 |
So every now and then when I turn on my PC or reboot it, Vista gets stuck on a looping loading bar. The crazy part about this is randomness. It happens like every 1 out of 5 reboots. I can just hit reset when it gets stuck and it boots up fine.
I seriously can't get my head around this, because it's so stable after a successful bootup, never had it crash. Things that I thought about:
-Messed up installation? If so, why does it boot perfectly fine most of time?. It shouldn't boot at all. Not to mention I had this problem on this PC for as long as I remember with tons of different Vista installs from different discs (starting with just vanilla, then SP1 RC, then SP1).
-Messed up overclock? If so, why it NEVER EVER crashed, or BSOD'ed, or locked up in over a year since I bought this system.
-Drivers incompatibility with some device? Once again unlikely, coz all of them are up-to-date with latest fixes and shmixes installed, yadda yadda.
-Faulty hardware? Nope, it's ultra stable once it's booted.
-No, really, wtf?!? I would understand if I had windows crash and BSOD all the time but no, it's just so stable and perfect.

Once I got this loop on XP it was because of my hard drive. Reformatted everything and it was fine again.

It is possible of some sort of software interference. You say one out of every 5 times. Have you tried rebooting consecutively say 10 times without using the OS itself? If so, have you tried doing that, but booting into safe mode each time? if so have you tried disabling all startup apps? If so, since you're overclocking have you tried setting everything back to stock speeds? There is always a possibility of a fan failing or dust settling. Have you checked your OC with prime95 for say 12 hours?
Hell, before you do any of that: Have you checked the event log?
What do you mean by stable once it's in windows? Do you leave it on without rebooting and something always running to hit the HD, CPU and mem?
Have you tried any troubleshooting at all?
Stop being at a loss for words and do some troubleshooting. Hell, my guess is it's a piece of software interfering. Could even be a windows update or one of those latest drivers you were talking about. Hell I had BSOD's with a previous nvidia latest driver. Do all those things and post again. Event log should mention something too. So clear it, and reboot till you get a freeze, note the time, then check the event log for what stopped it from booting.

Well I did another clean install of Windows and no more of this problem. Looks like it was software issue after all.
I think it was caused by using CCleaner. I always found CCleaner to be a little fishy, for example why does it find like 30 conflicts right after fresh windows install, or why does it want to delete nvidia driver information from the registry and other vital information. I'm not 100% certain sure but everything points to CCleaner, before I started using it I didn't have this problem, now I stopped using it and no more of this problem again.
Thanks for replies
