for a long time now i have been using eth0's student release of xp pro, for xp installs, so easy installs as legit, no wga nightmare etc.
I decided to set-up a new hdd for an xp install on my rig purely for pro audio use about a week ago, no problems until a power cut during defrag at the weekend corrupted the drive totally...no problem I'll just reinstall
except all of a sudden eth0's key is no longer legit for windows update etc, wga page defines it as a vlk key no longer in use due to abuse.
Can anyone suggest a suitable vlk key replacement or an alternate install that has the same ease of install - i don't want to go back to wga cracks that keep needing updating or mu blinder etc.

No no, don't start this. 
My best advice is to take a serial revealing software and go to school/work/public lib/etc that have XP pro, and get the serial that way. |

iNatan - good thinking boss  my mind must be getting lazy
xtralong - i already have vista x86, server 2k8 x64 and winb7 x64, but they all share same audio 'issues/limitations' for pro audio (ie the change to hardware acceleration for audio). Believe me i love the vista family but xp is the way to go for me /my software/ my hardware for audio production

I am still using the same release. After one of the windows updates genuine advantage check failed, so as soon as I "freed" my XP from "Genuine Advantage failed lockdown", I decided to try "Windows Genuine Advantage Fix" (WGAF) tool.
I checked my current key with "Genuine Advantage Checker" (GACK) tool - it is falled with the explanation that the product key is still valid, just can't be used in my region. I used the WGAF tool and checked again with GACK - now the check passed with "Genuine" as a result So, I went and tried Windows Update, it worked too.
I tried updating a few days ago and it is still working.

still working fine here
EDIT: stopped working

Yep. Same key here, stopped working due to region check. Had to use WGAF as I have already mentioned. |

Use a uni's/college techs key for teaching the OS/installs reinstalls etc etc lol ive had one from loooong time back and it still works on the XP systems I have every time..

That key works fine here. What regions were effected by the lockout?

Sounds promising, where did you find WGAF & GACK tools? did a quick google, nothing relevant showing

I found it about six months ago on some board specifically dedicated to Windows Activation and Genuine Advantage cracks. Basically it is an archive of four tools(VLK serial generator, Windows product key changer, Genuine Advantage fixer, Genuine Advantage Checker). You only need to find the third and fourth tool. Try googling for 3_WGAF and 4_GACk, maybe it would help.
BTW, one thing that Genuine Advantage fixer did is loop-backed one of microsoft hosts by adding the following line to hosts file
127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com

thanks for all your help guys...got things working ok, activated & passes wga. now got a mammoth job of re-installing sonar 8, my vsti's, reason etc etc
roll on to the days when installing a 30gb sound library will be as easy as plugging in a sdcard

i installed over years only lastxp version thats the best for me. the record was lastxp 18 i think that was installed 13 month on a pc before a got an new pc lol no problems no viruses etc.give it a try

it doesn't depend on the release, it depends on the CD key. Find that educational one that can't be banned(too many institutes use is) and use that with any release.

I did a fresh install and when it updates to the newest WGA, it says the serial number has been banned. Maybe it still works with XP that has updated prior but I'm not going to test it out on one of my boxes.

it all depends what region your in as far as i can tell... certainly in the uk the serial is banned. Other well known ones are still ok tho, got mine installed fine with one.

Just ran update on another pc - validation failed... Changed key with another and validates ok now. My other pcs still work with vlk key. Appears to be random.
**update - got my other pc - this time it disabled hosting. Had to reenable hosting script, then change key..Microsoft is cracking down...ewehhhh
