If that doesn't work, remove {current} and just use the normal command. You have to reboot after disabling/enabling in order for it to take effect.

Why? DEP has been disabled on EVERY machine I've built in the last 8 years (even since XP introduced the useless POS function) -- and I've had no ill-effects.

dep came in with windows xp sp2 if i remember right, if the hardware doesnt support it (the nx bit) then they try and do it in software..

the whole thing is made quite comical however by some workarounds they did to support old software (the pe loader checks for certain characteristics in the exe, for securom 5 or lower, and safedisc among others, if it detects such protections it turns OFF dep for the process)... so any good virus author out there could make their program 'look' like a safedisc / securom one and have fun with the os...

personally, i leave it on, and have had no issues, im not sure turning it off provides any boost in performance to the pc etc, so i think enabling / disabling it is just a personal choice with little/no benefit (except perhaps when you get a virus that tries to execute code off the stack, which they haven't done in a long long long time).

I disable mine because DEP takes issue with a lot of games, in my experience. Turning it off hasn't increased, nor decreased, performance -- and I've noticed nothing untoward happening either.

Like what exactly?... Name one title so we can reproduce it here... And if we cant then, please stop spreading FUD. No wonder you keep getting banned...

I haven't turned it off, ever.. I have built at least 30 gaming rigs recently (past three years) that still work today and NOT ONE GAME hasn't worked because of DEP. The only time it becomes an issue is if you use Windows Server (which has it set for on for ALL programs as default) or if you manually set it on for ALL programs in XP/Vista...

I have building PC's since 1992 (used to work for Scan in the UK for four years... built many hundreds of them in fact.) I also used to hardware mod Amiga's before that for many years, before you start a rebuttal about your 8 puny years...
