|
 |
Quote: | Need for Speed: Shift will launch on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP this autumn - as will Need for Speed: Nitro on Wii and DS. Need for Speed: World Online will be released to the Asian online PC market this summer, before heading West in the winter.
Need for Speed: Shift will be made by Slightly Mad Studios of GT Legends and GTR 2 fame, with help from EA Black Box producer Michael Mann and EA Games Europe bigwig Patrick Soderlund.
Shift focuses on simulation racing - not just the realistic movement of cars, but also driver behaviour. This, EA marketing boss Keith Munro told Eurogamer, is what will set the game apart. Also, less baggy jeans and hip-hop.
"The urban underground was a manifestation of style in some past Need for Speed games for sure, but Shift focuses less on these style cues and more on mirroring the driver experience, that athleticism of being in a wickedly-intense race, and what it really feels like to be behind the wheel," Munro told us.
A flashy 3D HUD that mimics driver head movement, inertia and G-force will help achieve this. There's a cockpit view that lets players freely look around using the right thumbstick, too.
Munro reckons serious car enthusiasts will "love" Shift, and that mainstream racers will also get on board. He's quite excited.
"Need for Speed Shift is amazing and I think it will blow people away," said Munro. "The tech behind that game, the details that only a team with such racing pedigree could accomplish, and the ability to make you feel the intensity of a race is unprecedented. I can't wait for our fans to begin experiencing it!"
And, he added: "Regarding any new Need for Speed girls I can't comment, but I'll definitely mark down one enthusiastic vote for Josie Maran." Steady on. |
Seems they didn't kill off the franchise after all. They did sack the Black Box team, but at least one of them is now working with Slightly Mad Studios. Very surprised when I read this though.

I dunno. Calling the game 'Shift' is like an invitation for easy insults, so they must be confident that the game will prove otherwise.
What I want is another GRID. >____>

this is perfect, I have faith in the need for speed series again!
I wonder if it will be free-roaming or circuit racing....or both!

Great news in my opinion! That development team sure know what they´re doing in car simulation.
PGR 4 is a good example of how an arcade car racer that also tries to make you feel like the real thing should be.
And I´m more of a circuit racing than free-roaming.

Same here, prefer circuit (or p2p) racing, not open city or world. I did like MW and TDU, but I prefect closed tracks.

If NFS Shift is really developed by the makers of GTR2 and GT Legends, then I guess it could become a really good game. But then again EA could force them to make it shitty.
Also i thought those games were made by Simbin. Iv'e never heared of Slightly Mad Studios.

It was made by 10tacle studios, and that is the team behind Slightly Mad Studios at present.

That isn't a Grid replacement either, because there will be Grid 2.
They say "call it Grid 2" symbolically to emphasize how similar the two games look. Did you really need me to say this sentence?

The new games, expected to be released later this year, are "Need for Speed Shift," a first-person racing simulation for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; "Need for Speed World Online," a multiplayer action-driving game for the PC; and "Need for Speed Nitro," an arcade-style racing game developed by EA Montreal for the Nintendo Wii and DS. |

Screenshots look alright, but with NFS games of late, there was no problem with the graphics. All down to the gameplay. If it truly is a reboot, then I imagine this will be its last chance. If they still manage to mess up when given free-reign to get away from the street-racing modding scene, then... byebye NFS.

In other words, EA fired their in-house developers (200 from Black Box was sacked) and bought Project Ferrari and renamed it? Now that's the EA I know.
