also get coreavc, if your using any codec pack like CCCP make sure you disable the libavcodec.

And still, VLC should not produce such abysmal results. Smile

bogo24dk, can you post system specs?

But they both use the same libavcodec (from FFmpeg) to decode, so quality should be the same. But I agree with you that it is too limited and slow. One disadvantage of KMP and MPCHC is they can't play broken files properly, certainly not as good as VLC. That is the reason I have it installed.

Well, yes, that CPU will have problems playing even high-bitrate 720p content. The best thing to do is use CoreAVC and disable any deblocking.

Define 'broken' files. I use KMP to preview files that are still downloading (http or otherwise) and it has no problems playing them. It even plays incomplete files that you get by unraring the first few rar files.

The files you describe, while incomplete, are still in sequence up until the point of incompleteness. But if you take a file still in download by a torrent, in 99% of the case you won't be able to preview it in KMP while able to in VLC. Smile

is an AMD X2 4400 too slow to play a 1080p bluray file? it's a dual core 2.2ghz processor but it's the older socket 939 config. i've been using VLC also but i will try those programs Mortibus suggested if my processor isn't too slow.

I have the same, plays 1080p fine with either coreavc or DXVA acceleration in WMP-HT x64 Smile

edit to say, I used coreavc + wmp-ht with XP x86 and just the built in acceleration in wmp-ht x64 now that I'm using vista. also I am just using passthrough for the audio so it doesn't need to decode anything on the computer.

I have the same CPU but mine is 2.4GHz. It's perfect. Coreavc utilizes all the cores to keep it smooth. I dunno much about VLC but if you use MPC you have to disable that libsomethingcodec in order to use it.
