i have recently got my ps2 mod-chipped and i am trying to make my first backup. I have the file i want to burn on my computer as a .iso file and i am trying to burn with nero but i am confused as to which option to burn under. There is an option for making a data disc or burn the image to disc.
Could anyone who burns games with nero please give me abit of help, it would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks in advance! Laughing

Open Nero. Select File>Open. Change the Files Of Type to Image Files.

But personally I prefer DVDDecrypter Smile

Skip nero man.
DVD-Decrypter is freeware and far superior so grab that instead.

i have just got dvddecrypter but when i open it up i am stuck! im sorry if this is really basic but ive never done it before.
When i open DVDdecrypter and it says source - it doesnt give me the option of J drive, which i have my .iso file stored on. do i have to mount the .iso or something before i can burn it?
i just copied one on nero just to test and it recognises it as a ps2 disk but wont load, so i am hoping that dvddecrypter is the answer as i dont want too many coasters!
Thanks for your help upto now, if anyone could give directions on how to use dvddecrypter then i would really apprectiate it! Confused

Push source.
Push where it say "Look in" and pick your J drive.
Go to the dir you have the file in and select it and push open (or just double click on the file).
Put in a disc and when it's ready push "Write" (write is the big icon on the left side of "write speed".

That's it. Sit back and wait for the disc to be done. Smile
If the disc still wont play in your ps2 it's not because of the burn but because of the media you use.

i think i may have a different version of this programme or i am totally missing something.
When i click source, it doesnt give me the option of selecting either of my hard drives (which is where i have the iso file)
also there is no write button, just a large (ish) pic of a cd and an arrow pointing towards a hard drive.
im sorry for being so stupid but it is quite getting to me now!

To be honest, no those datawrite are not very good for ps2 backups Smile
This is in regular, but in somce cases they can work so hold your thumbs. Smile

Ritek made disc's are always good and also verbatim discs for your ps2.

edit: yes that picture with the cd and hdd is the write button.
About the "look in". Check at the top, it says "Look in" there with an arrow on the right side of it. Push that arrow and you will see your drives.

Yeah thats correct.
I thought you already had write on since it said source.

Use 2x or even less if you want. As i said, those datawrite isn't exactly optional for your ps2 so it's better to be on the safer side Smile

edit: Ah these datawrite yellow discs do have the ritek dye. That is good.

These shuld work good. They use the same "dye" that ritek uses and ritek is one of the best media manufactures.
So if this works keep using them.

It's this right? http://www.videohelp.com/mediaimages/standardmedia8587.jpg

Never get any other datawrite though because only the yellow (v2) uses the ritek g04/g05 dye.

right, the game burnt ok and it started off excellent and me and my son got all too prematurely excited. It goes through the cut-scene until they push 'carl' into the police car and then there is an error reading the disc.
I burnt it at 2.4 speed, is this too high?
it is really annoying me now as i thought it had worked. Is there anything that i am missing or should i just try burning at a slower speed.
Thanks for all your answers so far, you have all been really helpful.

It's the media then.
GTA: Sa andreas is extremely picky when it comes to media.
These disc's you use will most likley work perfect on any other game except this.
If i was you i would get 1 really expensive disc and burn just this one game on that.
If you got a newer ps2 model and a burner that can handle dvd+rw get a verbatim dvd+rw. I use this with san andreas and it's like having the original disc.
