one of my friends is experiencing something a bit stupid with his system: windows keeps failing without any apparent reason. it's been happening for quite some time (as far as i know, since he bought the PC).
yesterday, i went to his house and formated to HDD, installed WinXp, everything was fine till today when he called me and told me he's experiencing the same problem he had before. he told me yesterday that Drive D: was never formated and that the last time Win failed to load (2 days ago) he was defragmenting D: drive, the system freezed, he restarted the system, and then he was unable to load Win.
today, his system crashed while playing MU Online (crazy people )
by failing i mean he receives the "Start Win Normally/ Safe/ last Known Config" image before the PC should start loading Win. it doesn't matter what he does there, what choice is being made, Windows will still not load. i tried Normally, Safe, Safe without network, Safe something, Last known Working Config.... nothing worked. it simply stopped responding.
now, as far as i can tell, i ruled out some of the most obvious reasons: old XP version, D: drive could be faulty since it has never been formated, deleted the partitions, i even created the partitions back using MS-DOS .... so, i believe it's very likely it's a hardware problem. it could be the IDE cable, HDD or main-board (worst case scenario).
also, someone told his it could be a BIOS related problem but i doubt...

To me sounds like a HDD problem. Try checking the power cable because, sth like that used to happen on my old (and now deceased ) HDD. The power cable can be faulty and probably makes a tiny short-out, which cause the drive to stop and start again. The only thing is I don't know if that's the case with new drives, because the one I had wasn't SATA, but old IDE drive...
