|

Yeah yeah so I finally got a preflashed 360 elite \o/
Anyway, the best spot I can find for it atm is like 10 centimeters away from PC speakers (standard creative 5.1 stuff). Is it ok to keep 360 so close to the speakers? Won't it get damaged by magnets in the speakers?

PC speakers are, generally speaking, shielded mate. Unlike normal "household" speakers, ones specifically made for PCs are shielded and don't cause magnetism damage to components (you can test it by waving one of the speakers next to your monitor. If you see colour warping, they're not shielded)
If they ARE shielded, then it won't cause any damage whatsoever to the 'Box.
Oh and welcome to the club! ^_^

Do you have the BenQ drive? They're, unfortunately, famed for the noise. It's horrendous! I'd gotten used to it before NXE .. but once NXE came out and I started installing games, I was stunned by how quite the machine was... heh.

The way I saw it was pretty much the same; it may be loud, but it's not as loud as the audio from the game I'm playing - nor is it as loud as my PC when I'm gaming either.
..... still, running games from the HDD is just goddamn awesome anyway!

And it's loud? Jesus.. I thought MS would have fixed that by now, seeing as how the BenQ was louder than the Hitachi and Samsung drives.

Well I dunno if it's loud by 360 stadards. It's insanely loud compared to Xbox1 and PS2 Slim.

You can have the loudest, meanest sound setup in the world. It don't mean shit if you hear whirring from fans or disc drive during quiet scenes. Whether that's gaming or watching a film. I have to deal with this problem on my PC. Drives me nuts.

Nah, you still need the DVD in the tray to play the game... but it never actually reads from the disk, so play is silent.

For me it reads when I insert it for a second (disc check obviously) and then when I exit to dashboard (weird).
I was a little disappointed by picture quality but then I found these vga color presets, selected "Expanded" and now it looks so damn good in 1680x1050. Colors are crisp and clear.
Sorry I just noticed that I made this thread in a wrong section, was meant to post in technical. No sleep for 40 hours and now I'm wired on my new purchase

Fuck, that blows. I felt the same way when I first got my 360 too, always swore I'd never do the "online thing" --- but when I got it, I was gutted I didn't have a router, so it meant having to constantly unplug my PC and plug in the 360 (only had one NIC in my PC at the time)

My 360 is very loud even with games installed it almost hums pretty annoying but can be drowned out by surround sound as I also use pc speakers with 5.1 decoder and works pretty slick and cost less then 100 dollars.

I have one NOW, lol. I've had my 360 for a year now, I just didn't have the router at the start.

if it's THAT close to your PC, and you have two ethernet ports you can route the internet from your PC to your 360. That's how I do it since my PC is always on anyways and my 360 sits on top of my case (360 uses my PC monitor)

Yeah it's that close, but I only have 1 NIC in PC.
Are accounts different for G4WL and XB Live? Can I use my account that I used to play G4WL games with Sega keys, or is that not safe? Aren't new consoles supposed to come with free month on XB Live or something?

I think, but don't quote me on this, that G4WL accounts are exactly the same as Silver XBL memberships. To go gold, you can log into it and redeem a code.
Normally new consoles come with 1 month free and a few games come with a 14 days trial (or at least thats the way in the UK).

Nope, they're identical accounts. If you have a G4WL account, you can log in on your 360 with that and just use a coupon or timecard to convert it to Gold. All your achievements/etc that you have on G4WL carry over (and vice-versa too)
It's VERY safe since you didn't "crack" the key system, you simply used a standard G4WL key. No harm, no foul (I've been doing it for months, mate)
New consoles DO come with a gold sub for 1 month, but it's up to you if you want to use it - thus sacrificing your current G4WL account. I'd recommend just getting a timecard or something and then adding that code to your existing account.

It's also good if you're an achievement whore, as achievements and gamerpoints you unlock on PC games (ie; Fallout 3, GTA4, etc etc) on the same account ... carry over to your XBL one too, effectively doubling the score you get from games that are on both XBL and G4WL.
I've got almost all the achievements on FO3 for the 360, now I'm doing it again on the PC and getting the same achievements - plus associated gamerscore - all over again.
