Game crashes when i change the visual settings. When i put everything to max and click OK, it crashes to desktop. Moreover it does that no matter what visual settings i choose. Well, i pass then...

It doesn't crash for me, but it constantly freezes, sometimes for minutes. After that I get a few seconds of undisturbed gameplay, then it freezes again, the sound repeating the last 0.5 seconds. Then it unfreeze again for a few seconds, then freeze again, and again, and again.
Extremely annoying. It looks great (finally a city builder that produces beleivable cities), but can't play it.

It's fun. Only annoying things so far are the camera control as well as fire bursting out when your building are not producing anything.
Kinda like a Stronghold game, though I have yet to get involved in combat.

Managed to get it working without that constant freezing (needed to rename the movie folder, makes little sense, but...oh well). So far it's decent in terms of gameplay, but the overall feel is great. Finally an ancient-city building game that really makes me feel I'm building a city and not just roads with buildings next to them.
My only problem is that there is very little option to decor the city. I mean, only two plazas (big/small) and two promenades (same) is just not enough. Plus I found no way to simply place pavement to fill out those annoying little gaps. Since small statues are too small and small promenades are too big, those scars on the big picture are really irritating. For me at least.
I hope they'll increase these number in a patch or something.

Every city becomes so ugly.. The buildings are too big and square, and there are no roads or anything, basically you end up with a few squares here and there, with random grass/dirt terrain between.

Someone wanna give me a mini review? Please and thank you very much to anyone who does.
Cause E:TW is ALMOST upon us but if this game is decent, I will give it a shot.
But like...is the diplomacy aspect good, trade, battle, building etc?
Please, a review is needed.

Please, a review is needed. | There isn't much diplomacy as far as I can tell. You select a family which follows a predetermined path of missions (as you go deeper, more and more cities unlock, now I have three to chose from and olders doesn't seem to go away, fortunately). There is a hint of diplomacy in the briefing messages, but since Gaius Julius' name already poped up in there, I don't think we have much choice.
Trade is the same so far. Only finished a couple of maps and only now do I get trade related missions. I'll look into it later.
Battle is the best in any city builder game to date however. You can recruit batalions of troops who will rise in ranks, have a special attack ability, etc. It's not RTW, but certeanly much more than ever before seen in any similar game.
As for building, that's pretty good. They take a little time to finish, but that only seem to be for show as they are relatively fast. There are no roads, you place a building and it will pave the area around itself, so if you place building close together, you'll get a really nice looking city in the end. The commercial model is a bit simplistic and fullfilling the needs is quite easy, if you have enough space to build on. Since the maps are HUGE (comparable to Sim City's huge maps) you'll rarely run out of space (I've never built more than 10% so far).
You can research techs in schools (that's the only purpose of the building), but it's only to gather more of certain materials or unlock buildings.
At the beggining you can select one of several families to represent, which will have special talents to unlock (you get one talent point after missions) and estates to purchase (you get personal wealth for secondary objectives), which will give more available resources at the start of missions (very helpful, makes starting out way easier).

Heh you don't even need to install this game if you just wanna check it out, mount DVD, double click Rome.exe (in Setup dir) and it works. Saving won't work thou. Anyway it's a cute game, but I'm too busy with Lost Odyssey and Gears of War atm.

Is your game playing through without crashes or lockups? I play on a T9300 4GB 8800M GTS 512MB laptop with Dox drivers. The game just causes my laptop to freeze with a black screen like its shutting down.
Anything special you are doing to get the game to run for more than 15 mins ?? could you expand on the movie folder suggestion.
Thanks.

I have a really outdated comp so I'm forced to play on minimum settings, but besides a little CTD while altering graphics options, I never experience any crasshes. I've also been playing for hours and not a single hickup.
There's nothing more to explain about the folder fix. In the main game folder, rename the "Movies" on to "No Movies". That fixes the occasional freezes, but I'm not sure about your problem.
