Can anyone help me with this issue please. I am trying to set up a wired connection from my ps3 through my wireless router and are having major issues. It detects that I have a wired connection and assigns an IP. Then DNS is a hit and miss. When it does assign a DNS it lasts for about 10 seconds then i get a message saying ethernet cable not detected. What i am wondering if it is a crossover cable I am using through my router and woul that make a difference. I think it is a cross over as it is what i used to FTP from my laptop directly to the old xbox and I sure you cant do that with an ethernet although i may be wrong. So the question i have is if it is a crpssover would that be the issue as it is going to the router or is there something im missing...thanks for the help...if i solve this ill have one happy little girl watching some 1080P cartoons
AFAIK, a "cross-over" cable is only used when connecting 2 PCs together. Of course they're all cross-over cables... I'm talking about its usage. If you are connecting your PS3 to your router, you'll need what people incorrectly call an RJ45 cable. Same cable, different setup at the end with the wires...
Given that you connected your laptop directly to you old xbox, you probably have the first type I mentioned. Your PS3 does come with a cable AFAIK. Check in the box. My 80GB had one...
