|
 |
http://www.2shared.com/file/5068642/bdcb1555/gta_iv.html
yesterday i installed my new Sapphire Hd 4870 (upgraded from HD 4850) but i noticed the card's performance with GTA IV is not as good as the HD 4850 i know this is wrong because the HD 4870 is supposed to be 20% more powerful but i'm not sure is this Card faulty or is my OverClocked PC to blame ?? please download the video clip i took with FRAPS from the link above.
thanks for the help : )

I have an ATI 2GB HD 4870 X2 and GTAIV runs fine on my machine.
Update your drivers first and foremost. If that doesn't help, test your card to see if it's defective. There are apps for that....I'm sure someone knows one.
If your card isn't defective and the drivers are up to date, try increasing virtual memory.
If that doesn't work...well, may try setting your comp back to its reg speed.
I have a 2.5GHZ Quad Core, 4GB Ram, card I mentioned above and my VM is set to 20GB. Game runs smoother than a baby's bottom .
Or ask on the GTAIV Forums.
Tho, if you have a pirate copy, make you have a bad copy of the game. Try downloading from another source.
I have a retail copy.
Hope some of this helps man. If it doesn't, sorry

Not sure. I'm not really a technical guy.
But I'm using whatever the latest set of drivers there is for the card. No beta drivers tho, final/complete latest drivers and it works fine.
Usually drivers that come on CD with the card are out of date. When I got my
4870 X2, the drivers on the CD were outdated.
I'd stick with the latest drivers on the ATI site. But make sure it's for your card. Cause I find ATI's website a little confusing and jumbled.
Are you using a retail copy or a "back up" copy?

it's hard to get confused downloading a driver from the ati website because you only get one download option for all 4800 series cards.
i forgot one thing:
with the HD 4850 i had 8gb ddr2 800 by PNY installed in my system but when i installed the new HD 4870 i changed the memory to 4gb ddr2 800 by corsair,i doubt this is the reason for the slow image rendering but thought i should mention it & while gaming vista 64 uses nearly 3.5 gb leaving little over 500mb's free.

Ah, your using Vista 64? I use 32...that could be your problem....try increasing your VM.
Like I said, I have my VM set at 20GB.
I don't know anything about 64bit Vista tho man, sorry. But it may be the problem.
Do you have a good processor? At least a Dual Core?
Cause I've read that it works best on a Quad but you can get by on a Dual.
And you prolly need atleast a 2.5GHZ. I think on the box it says less but people who have the specs listed on the box say it plays like shit.
But a 4870 X2 with 4GB RAM and at least a 2.2 Dual Core should allow the game to run fine....just don't make out the graphic settings in the game. Keep things on medium and such.
Apparently, according to some guy on the GTA boards, Quad Cores run the game the best because the game is meant for next gen tech.....which is stupid.
I have it for PS3 as well so I'm in no hurry to play it.
Plus I'm pissed I can't download Lost and Damned for either the PS3 or PC version.
And I'll be damned if I'm buying the fuckin game again for the 360...I don't need 3 versions of the same game......assholes at rockstar.
No need to thank me man, I help anyone if I can
If nothing I suggested helps, try the GTA Forums (google it). Tons of tips and tricks and shit on there....along with a buncha bitches complaining their 256mb 8500GT wont run the game on max lol

Syco, the optimal VM memory is 1.5 times the RAM memory you have. Setting the value way too high (20GB ) is actually counter productive and Windows may run slower.

Oh, well, my comp runs lightning fast. Doesn't run slower or anything.
I believe you.
I'll try it out.
So I have 4GB so I should have 8GB VM?

6-8 would be optimal, yes.
Also, because you use Vista 32, you only use 3.25GB of that memory. Pity, no? Next reinstall, go with 64bit.
