PostPosted: Wed, 15th Oct 2008 05:51    Post subject: Oblivion Mods
So, I played Oblivion when it first came out, maxed out all the guilds, and when I got to the main quest I was too bored to do anything so I quit.

I keep hearing again and again that Oblivion was crap and heaps of mods made it awesome.

So can anyone let me know which mods should I install to make Oblivion awesome and I will give it another go.

Thanks

Take a look at tesnexus.com, (need to register)

Sort by downloads/rating, to find popular mods

A good body replacer (Man/Woman - there are underwear versions for most, take the one you prefer and some are pretty customizable.)

Texture replacers if your computer can handle it, make things look better and there's quite a few available (Was a while since I played so even more available now I guess.)

Unofficial patch (Plus the one for SI and the other DLC's) corrects most bugs and issues.

Wrye Bash for mod ordering (load order is important for example) and other useful functions, OBSE also helps with certain mods (New script functions) and I probably miss a few other utilities.

Quest mods to enhance and add to the game, new items and monsters and whatever else you might want, just check sites like PlanetElderScrolls and TESNexus, there's thousands of modifications available as you most likely know.
(Looking forward to a potential editor for F3 but I don't have much hope for one, as a example DLC support will be a bit heavier and DLC's are already planned based on earlier previews.)

Quarl's Texture pack 3...
it's amazing...
it replace the old texture whit new... and they are three time better than before.
It take a lot of hardware too, on the other side...

I agree if you're computer can handle this ( also its about 2 GB ) then this is one of the first things you should get. I also like changing the scaling enemies with OOO some other suggestions:

No Psychic Gaurds
Readable Signs
Better Book Covers
Midas Magic Spells
Unofficial Oblivion patch

and Oblivion mod manager to tie it all together.

There are 3 or 4 mods adding good, interesting, and long quests to the game, but the bigger mods are for starting a new game with new rules and enemies (and quests).

if there's a mod that adds 'die by the sword' type controls and wii controller support, i'll reinstall too Smile
but not really interested before that
i played probably 1/3 through and it was just way too shallow of a game for me to enjoy on the long run - a collage of generic quests placed to fit the world
in contrast to a good rpg, where you love the game and gameworld more the longer you play

I personally recommend FCOM Convergence. It combines lots of great overhaul mods, makes Oblivion WORLDS better. More monsters, more loot, more quests. Add a few mods along side of FCOM and you got yourself the mother of all freeform RPGs.

The one thing that does suck with all of it is Deadly Reflex causes some crashes along side with FCOM. FCOM is technically still in beta (0.9.9 But is very stable ), and can be a bit of a hassle to get installed. But trust me, it's well worth it. It requires the latest versions of all the major mods, and could take a bit of downloading to get it all. But keep it organized and read the website and the cheat sheet, or use a tool called FCOM Helper to get it installed correctly. And the site means it when it says Wrye Bash is definitely needed, its a tool that runs on Python, so ya need that too Razz

Just watch the trailer Razz -> http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/142365.html

If I remember correctly, at one point in the game you have a servant in one of the houses you purchase. Is there any mods that change the look of your servant?

Also does anyone know the name of any mods that change the look of some of the female NPCs to much more estheticly pleasing? And what about about nice looking female companions.

I've been to tesnexus.com and there are a lot to go through. Thought maybe some of you would know some good NPC/companion mods.
