Quote:

EA is being attacked by Christian bloggers for staging a fake religious protest against Dante's Inferno during E3 week.

A viral marketing agency hired 20 people to picket the game outside the Los Angeles Convention Center, bearing signs reading "Hell is not a game" and "Trade in your PlayStation for a PrayStation". They even blamed a rare day of rain in LA on the godlessness of EA's game, based on Dante Aligheri's Divine Comedy.

Although the LA Times fell for it, Associated Press later exposed the stunt.

Now Christian, specifically Catholic, bloggers are taking exception to EA's marketing tactics, reports GamePolitics.

"It's been clear for a while now that the entertainment industry views Christians on the whole as priggish, thin-skinned fun-killers," said Maragret Cabaniss of InsideCatholic. "Has anybody at EA actually read the Inferno?"

Catholic Video Gamers was more direct: "Gamers of all varieties will buy this product if it's, well, actually a good game. So instead of engaging in a shamelessly anti-Christian stunt to promote your poor excuse of a product, maybe you ought to work on making this game, you know, something better than a blatant God of War rip-off and make it, ya know, something worthwhile?"

Touché. Dante's Inferno is out next year for PC, 360, PS3 and PSP.

Most of us are born into it though and don't know any better until later. Religion can be a good thing as well though, for instance, to give people something like a point or a direction in their lives.

Still damn Constantine for setting in motion one of the major factors that led to the fall of the Roman Empire!

Anyway, it's just a game. And those guys are just a minority. Majority don't really give a shit either way.

I think is for people to have something/someone to blame whenever bad things happen. "It's my punishment" or "I deserve it" - that's what they think.

I believe in myself. Whatever happens is caused by me or is accidental. I dont believe in no divine power. World and life is simpler that way.
I find religion a waste of mind, time and money too.

I'll have to agree with CVG's statement, though generally I don't care too much.

I do think it's lame to use a religion like this just to draw attention to a product.

Surprised people aren't more upset about this. What if Capcom had a fake protest with black people about RE5? This is pretty much the same thing. But then again, everyone already knows EA is pathetic and does whatever they can to get money.

Didn't Ea give away free gas during their Mercenaries 2 propaganda stunt Laughing talk about attention whores, everyone needs to hear about their little games.

Dead Space had that movie on dvd but that was nice, still a very aggressive propaganda policy.

Heh, people need to lighten up. Besides, it's not a real PR stunt, if it isn't daring.

Yeah, but it's not even a game that's on PC.

That's kind of a stupid way to use the word "propaganda."

Yap, no argument there Very Happy
Nah, it's only the fundamentalists that are killing all the non believ... I mean fun.
Well, that women's a wee bit on the crazy side, isn't she?
Expecting EA's employees to read something about hell when their whole company is based there. Silly woman...

Oh well the irony of these pr stunts is that it is those who complain who make the stunt work.

few of us woulda given the game a second thought until it was ready to download but just because a few xtian fools who like to imagine their point of view is the only one that counts, kicked up a fuss the PR has been given sufficient oxygen to live on past e3.

It'll probably turn out that the tyke video gamers are bulldust too - just another arm of some publicity machine.

Yeah I guess, but I find most passionate atheists as annoying as passionate religious people.

At least passionate atheists aren't by definition irrational.

Mentioned in the Dante thread, it's not planned for PC at the moment.
(Or atleast that's how I understood it after reading the recent news about it in that thread.)
