Yes I know it's hard to explain but in PCSX2 emulation they clip and glitch even more.
Speaking of Rogue Galaxy in that, if I remember correctly, shadows aren't visible as well as shit load of glitches. But maybe they fixed some of that recently. |
Splintered off from the other one so we don't keep threadjacking, heh.
From what I've seen, in regards to the FF titles, is that they're about even in glitches - depending on what plugins you use. GSdx is more compatible, ZeroGS *used* to be the best but it had far too many graphical issues. The rare times where you see clipping and missing textures, are either;
A. ALSO in the PS2 original
or
B. Honestly inconsequential and shouldn't be used as a reason to deride the emulator.
Of course people want 100% Perfection -- but even PS1 emulation isn't that advanced. All I'm saying is that PCSX2 has come along much further than you think. It's not perfect, nor do I think it will be for a very long time, but it's no longer at the stage of "Some games are playable, with glitches, while most don't even go in-game" -- the latest SVN releases are like digital ambrosia. It's probably fair to say you'll find more games that are completely playable (start to finish) than not.
You are, of course, correct about Rogue Galaxy. It has got issues, unfortunately. Shadows are on/off, you need to enable the DaZ hack just so you can move and you need a Core2 processor clocked at OVER 3.6Ghz in order to get 100% speed. Still, the game is completable

@Digitalman
I'm not sure about Gradius, but as far as I know, SoC requires too powerful a machine to run at fullspeed.. even today >_<
Give one of the latest SVN builds a try.
@CostelD
It depends on what speed the proc is running at. 3Ghz and above seems to be the sweet spot.

The PS2 itself struggles to run Shadow of the Colossus so that's not surprising.

I've never even played the game before, either.

You're missing out, it's a classic! ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are the two biggest reasons I miss backwards compatibility on the PS3.

I keep hearing about how awesome ICO is/was.. but I'm sure I've played it before -- wasn't it a platformer?

I've never tried the Shadow game, mate, it wasn't really my deal -- but the absolute best thing you can do is clock your processor. PCSX2 is very much dependant on CPU speed and anything over 3Ghz seems to be the magic zone.

I mean dual-core, yes. A 1.8Ghz dual-core simply will NOT be fast enough, mate, not even for FFX I'd wager.

I've tried God of War 2 and Shadow of the Colossus with a E8500, both ran slow. I know 30 or even 40 frames aren't that bad, but it is when the game is obviously designed for 50 or 60. I haven't fiddled much with speed hacks and such though.

Definitely look into speedhacks and SVN releases. They help performance a helluva lot.

Yup, i play SOC on my PS3 still. IMO it looks amazing for a PS2 game. I never played it on PS2, but my son has it, so itried it in the PS3, and its great.

Shiiiiiit. *wracks brains* I KNOW there's a fix for the video slowdowns in MGS3. I remember reading about it on NGemu. I just can't remember what it was >_<

Ooops, forgot to mention; PCSX2 has undergone a change, guys. Official and Playground teams are now together, on the same team, and they've just released 0.9.6. This release incorporates ALL the known fixes, patches and hacks thus far developed by the Playground team.
Definitely worth checking out, methinks!
