Don't you agree?

This time last year we had pretty much nothing to play for months, the only thing to do was whine in the "PC gaming is dead" threads.

And look at the situation now, we get constant stream of PC games since the start of this year. We already had a few awesome PC exclusives. We even got games from genres that almost never made it to PC before (HAWX, The Last Remnanat, soon Street Fighter 4).

PC gaming rules Smile

P.S. I still hate Steam's 1€ = 1$ bullshit.

steam doesnt have anything to do with it - most of the games was developed long time ago or are console ports - steam only publish it via their own system - just like impulse but much worse and intrusive ;/

But it helped a lot. Lots of devs turned to steam in order to "fight" piracy, otherwise they wouldnt have released certains titles. Can´t wait for SF4 and RE5 announcement.
SF4 is gonna be gwfl?

No take it personal, but the sentence "PC gaming is dead" is one of the stupidest things I have ever read. In fact, the only thing dying are game consoles, my Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation are dead, the same will happen with XBOX360 and PS3. PC just evolves. I never get the point and "logic" of some people.

in fact PC can be used for many things except games - X360/ps3 can only act as game station and crappy home theater system - no extension - crapy overpaid accesories and games that price are 150-200 % of the pc - dont forget about paid only multiplayer ;/

PS3 has free multiplayer, no? I would never pay for shit like live though, it's retarded that they make you pay to play online.

i hate steams racist profiling. aussie users get buttfucked because of it. 89 fucking $USD for cod4 last year... cod4 was a great game, but fuck off at that price. ill never buy a game from steam because of its racist profiling.

only thing i love about steam is because i love valve. steams got nothing to do with apart from bringing valves business/gaming ethics to my home with awesome games and industry leading dedication to updates.

i know its off topic, but i love valve... theyre awesome Very Happy

Oh! I forgot my opinion about Steam. Well, I don't really like it, BUT, that is PC evolving, in the future everything will be internet related, so, it's plenty normal the games will be all online (including installation). Even piracy will be impossible one of this days (my idea is PCs without hard disc with everything downloaded in real time from secure servers, but internet need better speeds, as fast as a LAN)

No, the internet needs to be a LOT faster(like 10x) than LAN if what you're saying should happen which is quite impossible unless there's a major breakthrough. So ya, piracy can't be stopped...

As data size is growing as fast as connection speed, such a thing will never happen in the near future.

Agreed, I bought quite a few games on Steam since the platform is just nice, but I think they are ripping off europeans.

No, i dont agree. They're selling games at very high price and i dont see the point to buy game from them for 50 euros, when in shops games with BOX costs almost 2 times cheaper.

Yes. And is very possible to make piracy impossible (even when I will hate that, look at my avatar). With impossible, I mean harder than steal your money from bank; that's plenty enough I think.

I agree that steam has helped a lot against pc piracy. But only in those cases where publisher constantly updates their games and in games that have strong multiplayer. Steam is great at both, pirate groups often don't release patches for steam games because various reasons, not a small reason to that is that most of the time noone even knows which files were updated. Football manager gained huge by steam protection and it looks like Empire TW gained a lot also. On the other hand, if game is not updated (even if its polished), without or with bad MP and scene release is good, then sales won't be as high.
Its multiplayer security is great also. Thousands of pirated serves like in COD and fiasco with one cd key as in GFWL, just don't happen here.

I agree with the topic.

Steam has helped a lot. And I'm pretty sure TLR and other Japanese console games coming to the PC would have not been as smooth or even possible without Steam.

Steam has also been really, really good for small, independent publishers. There are lots of games in the $10-$20 range that would never have seen the light of day without Steam, and many more that would not have gotten the sales they deserved.

As much as big budget games like L4D suck up time, there is something satisfying about knowing you're supporting a small team of independent developers, who often make really innovative and entertaining products.

These 10$ sales keep on coming and I'm buying games that I love, but I'd never pay 60$ for it. Valves starting to get it right, now if they'd just improve the client a bit I'd be a lot happier with it Smile.

Don't forget to give the publishers credit for the sales, as well.

You missed a key line: "the Eee simply operates as a remote wireless"
That won't work across the internet.
It really doesn't matter what the website claims and any test on 2 PCs side by side like that don't really prove anything.

If i'm at work and I ping my home PC and get a ping response of 200ms, guess what? there will be lag. there is nothing that any device can do.
There are also massive bandwidth requirements to stream those kinds of graphics. Play an hour of crysis and you've gone over your limit for the month.

i wasn't saying it's a viable option right now. i'm not even a fan of the idea. my point was that the concept was valid.

No its not valid.
Because no matter what you do you won't overcome the ping problem which will introduce lag.
You might be able to stream from your home office to your home living room, but anything further than that is going to cause issues.

They're claiming no lag..but it isn't going to happen. I envision fPS to be completely unplayable on this service. RTs and turn based games might be fine.

However this service only works in ideal conditions.. how many times have you seen fluctuation in your connection in terms of speed and ping? Even googling this company gets nothing... nothing but stories.. their website doesn't even turn up in the first several pages of results.

man, when i said that it was a valid concept i meant that, as opposed to what sin317 posted, computers can work that way. i don't care for this technology more than this and you don't have to convince me that it won't work or anything Smile
