|
 |
Quote: | Microsoft has unveiled the latest features and upgrades making their way to its Games for Windows Live platform, with a focus on increasing anti-piracy efforts.
Games for Windows will now offer "zero day piracy protection", including server side authentication on top of a further layer of authentication required for online play.
In addition, sellers on the platform's market place will now be able to design their own storefronts, while the "roaming" function will allow consumers to save their personal settings and have access to them on any other compatible Windows PC.
"This update and other features currently in development represent a tipping point in the evolution of Games for Windows Live as a leading online PC gaming network," said Ron Pessner, general manager of Games for Windows Live.
"In the coming months, we will continue to deliver on our promise to provide gamers and publishers with the industry’s best connected gaming experiences through the Live service."
Dave Luehmann, general manager of Window games for Microsoft Game Studios, added: "As a publisher, no one is more excited to see the continued growth and evolution of Games for Windows Live than Microsoft Game Studios."
"We have several projects underway which will incorporate the Live service, and we're continuing to build new developer relationships here at GDC to bring the best in the industry to Games for Windows Live." |

It's already impossible to play online most games who use gfwl, but it's still possible with hamachi. Does that protection is just some smart talk or it's really something we should fear?

Looks like something to prevent early leaks, similar to Steam... Probably not something to lose your sleep over.

Quick, someone make a we put an authentication layer in your authentication layer so you could authenticate while you authenticate the free games we offer.

Just great, more M$ shitty code means more crashes, bsod's and other shit that goes with their GWL games, I predict that if you have your firewall on with these new protection schemes your comp will blow up in your face.

The most important questions is; How will this effect the "G4WL key" scandal? D'ya reckon MS are finally getting around to fixing that loophole?

I have a club game key which still works so far, but lets hope those ones for that game have not been kept on record for the freebie give outs when they fucked up..

I know the DoW2 beta key was canned, but I honestly expected that anyway. I just hope they don't change how the rest works, because right now - even without my Club key - I can just go and pay a fiver, buy a copy of Shadowrun or Halo 2 and then use THOSE.
*fingers crosses that MS don't fix the bug*

they're only securing the future of PC gaming for us. dev's get paid for their hard work = more games for us & possibly new titles like fight night 4..etc,end of the day PC games are still much cheaper than console ones.

Developers get paid a wage, it's the publisher that makes money off sales - not them.

who said it's impossible to play using hamachi? All it requires is some hex editing. GFWL just detects the ping rate, and it's it's not small enough then you can't use it, hex edit those values out and your set.
